General Machinist – Custom Jobbing Environment Barrie Welding & Machine
We are seeking a highly skilled General Machinist with strong conventional machining experience to join Ontario’s largest custom machining and fabrication shop, located in Barrie. This is a hands-on role suited for a machinist with proven experience in a custom jobbing environment.
· Perform your own set-ups, tool selection, and operate conventional lathes and mills to produce complex parts with minimal supervision. This is not an “Operator” type role.
· Interpret detailed drawings and follow work instructions.
· Maintain close tolerances and perform quality checks using precision measuring tools such as micrometers, calipers, and dial indicators.
· Machine a wide variety of materials and components including large and unique parts.
· Participate in the repair and maintenance of shop equipment and machinery.
· Assist apprentices with their work & training.
· Uphold company safety standards and contribute to a positive team environment.
· 7 or more years of experience as a General Machinist in a custom machining shop.
· Strong conventional machining experience is a must.
· Candidates must be versatile and proficient with working on a wide range of projects, part sizes, and equipment (lathes, mills, and grinders of various sizes).
· CNC or conversational control experience is considered a strong asset.
· General Machinist license (Certificate of Qualification) is an asset but not required.
· Experience with large parts is an asset (please specify size/type of work completed).
· Strong work ethic, initiative, and positive attitude.
· Willing and able to work rotating shifts. Our rotation is 6 weeks of days (8-hour shifts Mon-Fri) and 2 weeks of afternoons (10-hour shifts Mon-Thurs with Fridays off).
· Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
· Must be willing to relocate if living beyond a commutable distance to Barrie, ON.
· Competitive hourly wage: $28.00 – $42.26/hour based on experience.
