Job Description:
The Manual Machinist is responsible for setting up, operating, and maintaining manual machine tools to fabricate precision parts according to engineering drawings and specifications. This role requires a strong understanding of machining principles, equipment operation, and the ability to work with various materials, including metals and plastics. The Manual Machinist must possess exceptional attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and a commitment to producing high-quality components.
Key Responsibilities:
•Machine Setup: Prepare and set up manual machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and horizontal bars according to job requirements. Ensure proper alignment, tool selection, and machine calibration.
•Operation: Operate manual machine tools to perform machining operations such as turning, drilling, boring, threading, milling. Monitor machine performance and make necessary adjustments to maintain quality and efficiency.
•Material Handling: Select appropriate raw materials (metals, plastics, etc.) based on job specifications. Handle materials safely and efficiently, including loading and unloading workpieces onto machines.
•Tooling and Fixturing: Select, install, and adjust cutting tools, fixtures, and workholding devices to securely hold workpieces and achieve desired machining outcomes. Inspect tools for wear and damage, and replace as needed.
•Quality Control: Perform in-process and final inspection of machined parts using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, gauges. Ensure adherence to dimensional tolerances and surface finish requirements.
•Maintenance: Conduct routine maintenance tasks on manual machine tools, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs. Report any equipment malfunctions or abnormalities to the appropriate personnel.
•Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to maintain a safe working environment. Identify and mitigate potential hazards associated with machine operation and material handling.
•Documentation: Maintain accurate records of production activities, including job setups, tooling usage, material consumption, and quality inspection results. Complete necessary paperwork and documentation in a timely manner.
Qualifications:
•High school diploma or equivalent; technical/vocational training in machining or related field preferred.
•Proven experience as a manual machinist in a manufacturing or precision machining environment.
•Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications.
•Strong knowledge of machining principles, tooling selection, and cutting parameters.
•Familiarity with a variety of manual machine tools and their operation.
•Ability to perform basic math calculations and use measuring instruments accurately.
•Excellent attention to detail, organizational skills, and problem-solving abilities.
•Effective communication skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.

Physical Requirements:
•Ability to lift and move heavy objects (up to 50 pounds) and stand for extended periods.
•Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to manipulate tools and workpieces with precision.
•Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, dust, and potentially hazardous materials.
