Position Summary:
The person holding this position uses mobile equipment to excavate, farm and handle bituminous waste coal fines and coarse waste coal (gob); reclaims rejected material; utilizes ash to restore the site to approximate original contour; neutralizes rejected materials; and undertakes soil amendment.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
•Excavates waste coal and farms waste coal fines.
•Loads and unloads trucks.
•Excavates and stores clay for final cover and places, compacts and grades ash.
•Mixes soil for final cover and plants grasses to establish vegetative cover.
•Services mobile equipment and performs mechanical maintenance work as required.
•Assists in site maintenance (i.e., maintains entry road by fixing potholes, grading and crowning, clearing culverts, etc., and performs basic site housekeeping).
•Ensures that equipment and site conditions meet MSHA safety and health standards and follows all Company safety and health rules and regulations.
•Complies with all state, federal and local environmental laws and ensures that site meets environmental requirements by assisting in controlling dust, erosion and sedimentation, and water treatment.
•Assists in controlling quality of fuel through the use of waste coal sampling, waste coal top sizing and tramp materials.
•Safely operates front-end loader, bulldozer, track excavator, water trucks, dump trucks, pumps, and other site supporting equipment.
Required Job-Related Qualifications:
•High school diploma or equivalent, and five to 10 years' experience in surface mining or surface reclamation.
•Thorough understanding of heavy equipment operation and mine site reclamation activities.
•Ability to monitor and record fuel site activities.
•Ability to recognize problems and communicate them to appropriate management.
