Job purpose
Foreman will lead a crew of carpenters and laborers that will perform general carpentry construction, punch work and other tasks involving the installation of product as directed by the Site Supervisor or Assistant Site Supervisor(s). It is the foreman’s responsibility to perform, assign, delegate, and oversee the duties of the crew to ensure accuracy of the work and efficiency of the crew.
Duties and responsibilities
General Company
Always follow all Colt safety policy and site-specific safety procedure. Understand and execute safety plan while teaching others and intervening when proper safety protocol is not followed
•Work with Safety Team to improve safety for all employees on the job site.
•Represent Colt in a professional manner to the client.
•Lead and be the example to others representing Colt Focus Five values.
•Execute work as directed by the Site Supervisor and/or Assistant Site Supervisor(s).
•Mentor and develop other team members in the policies, procedures, systems, and technical construction means and methods used by the Company.
•Have short & long-term plan for the career development of Carpenters
•Actively work to increase job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities.
Safety
•Ensure compliance with the Colt SSSP, standard safe practices, and Colt clean, and take corrective action when necessary
•Ensure and participate in the performance of all Colt required safety documentation
•Monitor and report work activities of other trades to ensure they do not create safety hazards for Colt Builders’ employees
•Attend weekly safety meetings with Colt Builders’ employees and subcontractor employees, and review safety issues encountered at the site
•Have all safety certifications and/or qualifications i.e., first-aid, CPR, AED, forklift operations, aerial/scissor lift operations etc.
Project Operations
•Follow and execute directions given by Site Supervisor and Assistant Site Supervisor.
•Be on time for start of shift.
•Understand scope of work for the job/job plans and details
•Plan and Convey tasks to be completed daily with carpenters on site. Report progress daily to site supervisor.
•Report any constraints to Site Supervisor
•Work with field carpenters to assure budgets and allocated man hours are met.
•Layout and detail all work to be performed by carpenters and/or subcontractors
•Keep Work Area COLT CLEAN
•Assure the proper materials are being used for the task to prevent waste.
•Oversee the use of Company Tools ensuring they are all returned at end of shift and in good working conditions
•Work with the Assistant Site Supervisor and or Site Supervisor in the execution and completion of the Quality control procedures.
•Notify Supervisor of materials needed to meet job schedule deadlines
•Anticipate crew needs and convey to Site Supervisor
•Evaluate employee carpenter skills and convey needs to Supervisor.
•Aid in the Collection of material delivery tickets and turn in to the Site Supervisor
•Actively work to increase job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities
Qualifications
•Have the ability to perform the activities of the workers you will supervise
•Have advanced framing knowledge
•Have advanced plan reading skills
•4 Years’ experience of commercial Carpentry Construction
•Have knowledge and experience in manpower management
•Have the ability or obtain the ability to perform tasks in Fieldwire
•Be certified or able to be certified in CPR, AED, and First-aid response
•OSHA 10-hour construction training
Essential Functions:
Prolonged periods standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling.
•Must be able to climb ladders and stairs.
•Must be able to walk from the ground level to the top level of the project, sometimes this can be 5 flights of stairs or ladders.
•Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds at a time.
•Must be able to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment.
•Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains.
•Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination.
•Must be able to work together in a team environment
Working conditions
Full time hourly position, requiring minimum of 40 hours/week – overtime and weekend work may be required. Environmental factors depend on job location but may include extremely cold, extremely hot, and humid conditions. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors and sometimes at extreme heights.
