Description

Responsible for coordinating and planning the work activities related to gas and water measurement, responding to gas leaks, repairing and maintaining gas and water meters, gas gate and regulating stations, the Cathodic Protection program, Gas SCADA, and the utility line locate program.

Position provides general scheduling and work planning for Measurement Technician and Locator positions. Responsibilities include training, scheduling, planning, assigning, and directing workflow of employees and addressing complaints and resolving problems. All leadership responsibilities are carried out in accordance with applicable State/Federal employment laws and Decatur Utilities’ policies and procedures.

- Plans, coordinates, and prioritizes daily work activities of measurement technicians and utility locators.

- Provides training to technicians to ensure job duties are performed in a safe and professional manner and are adequately trained to meet current and future job demands.

- Oversees fleet maintenance and upkeep on all assigned vehicles.

- Provides technical expertise and oversight for the operation, repair and maintenance of gas regulating stations.

- Repairs and calibrates gas/water meters, regulators, and related appurtenances.

- Evaluates calls for gas leaks and ensures proper repairs are made. Determines when assistance is needed.

- Coordinates the cathodic protection inspection and maintenance program.

- Provides pilot lighting during meter change outs and provides back-up assistance for seasonal work.

- Provides oversight for the operation, repair, and maintenance of odorizers.

- Provides planning and oversight for industrial/commercial/residential meter change out programs.

- Responsible for the industrial gas/water meter test programs.

- Provides oversight for gas electronic metering program.

- Responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of the gas SCADA system.

- Responsible for the utility line locate program.

- Maintains inventory and orders meters, regulators, and related measurement equipment.

- Responds to customer concerns in a prompt and professional manner.

- Maintains good housekeeping standards in meter shop and related facilities.

- Completes time and attendance records and other reports related to work group.

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

- High school diploma or GED.

- Minimum 4-6 years related work experience and/or specialized meter/regulator training

- Proficient in use of Microsoft Office Suite (Microsoft Outlook, Word, Access & Excel) to perform job tasks
