This position has two major elements: Food Safety and Production Planning. The first element is Food Safety, this position is responsible for the administration of the Lyons’ BRC certification and Food/Feed Safety and Defense Programs. Performing sampling and other routine laboratory procedures related to the preparation and analysis of salt samples for physical, particle size, and chemical composition. Also performs routine chemical laboratory procedures related to preparing salt and water samples for analysis. These tasks must be performed in a safe, accurate, and efficient manner. This role is also responsible for the inspection, cleaning, and general care of the assigned area and associated testing equipment.
The second element is Production Planner, to establish a plan that meets Salt requirements, ensure the planner is communicating to all production supervisors, compare expected results to actual, and take corrective measures as required. Responsible for coordinating inbound rail shipments with logistics. This position reports to the Quality Manager and works closely with logistics, and combines responsibilities in Quality and Operations
Essential Job Functions include, but are not limited to the following:

- Auditing and maintaining compliance with FSMA & BRC-related policies and procedures; secondary point of contact for BRC, external, and internal auditors. Support and attend internal and external audits related to BRC; Administers change management procedure for all applicable changes related to BRC certification.
- Conduct annual Food/Feed Safety & Defense refresher training and manage change control documentation.
- Administer and audit BRC-related policies and procedures.
- Support customer relations regarding product quality incidents and QSIs.
- Receive, test, and document salt and water samples for physical and chemical analysis.
- Input distressed counts and manage disposal/recycling of written-off product.
- Maintain cleanliness and calibration of lab equipment. Mix reagents and perform hand titrations.
- Collaborate with customer service and sales for smooth order processing. Filing, recordkeeping, and data entry.
- Perform other related duties as required.
- Directs daily production and provide SKU items and tonnage requirements daily for production.
- Coordinating daily shipments and pick orders to be loaded.
- Correct inventory discrepancies through inventory adjustments. Assist as needed with quarterly cycle counts.
- Coordinate a plan for product rotation. Maintain plan with warehouse operators.
- Input accurate distressed counts into E1/DSI. Dispose or recycle of written product.
- Assist in month-end reporting, cycle counts for finished goods and raw materials, special projects as needed.
- Develops a weekly/monthly railcar forecast based on Salt forecast.
- Communicates rail salt plant car loading statistics to determine efficiencies and opportunities.
- Production performance vs. Salt plan and develops daily/weekly production plans for Salt products.
- Ensures ERP system is up to date and used effectively in the planning process.
- Perform other related duties as required.

- 4 years in the field or related area
- Previous work as laboratory technician.
- Planning experience in a heavy industrial setting.
- Firsthand experience using analytical equipment and performing hand titrations
- Experience demonstrating the ability to effectively establish, track and continuously improve upon production plans.
- Effectively work with complex spreadsheets and ERP systems.
