TITLE: Finish Lathe Operator

REPORTS TO: Department Supervisor

STATUS: Full Time/Hourly Non-Exempt (40 hrs./week; additional hours as needed to support organization and individual goals)

LOCATION:Thumb Tool & Engineering – Bad Axe, MI

Job Requirements:

•

High school diploma or equivalent

•

Ability to accurately read pertinent aspects of blueprints

•

Communication skills

•

Ability to accurately read measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers

•

Basic Math skills

•

Ability to read and interpret documents

Job Summary

A Finish Lathe Operator sets up and operates Engine Lathes to machine steel work pieces by performing the following duties.

Essential Job Functions

•

Read blueprint or job order for specifications for dimensions and tolerances and tooling instructions for holding devices.

•

Positions and secures tools on holders.

•

Lifts work piece manually or with a hoist, positions and secures work piece in holding device, manual chuck, centers or fixture.

•

Sets specified rotation speed, feed rate, depth of cut, and positions tool in relation to work piece.

•

Indicates parts in three jaw and four jaw chucks, splits and fits job by turning face, ID or OD to meet blueprint specifications.

•

Turns step on dies to blueprint specifications.

•

Turns mandrels and die inserts for die and/or housing according to blueprint specifications.

•

Other duties include housekeeping to ensure a safe and productive working atmosphere and others specified by supervision.
