TITLE: Finish Lathe Operator
REPORTS TO: Department Supervisor
STATUS: Full Time/Hourly Non-Exempt (40 hrs./week; additional hours as needed to support organization and individual goals)
LOCATION:Thumb Tool & Engineering – Bad Axe, MI
Job Requirements:
•High school diploma or equivalent
•Ability to accurately read pertinent aspects of blueprints
•Ability to accurately read measuring instruments such as calipers and micrometers
•Ability to read and interpret documents
Job Preferences:
•Manufacturing experience
•The ability to be creative, innovative, detail oriented, and work independently
Job Summary
A Finish Lathe Operator sets up and operates Engine Lathes to machine steel work pieces by performing the following duties.
Essential Job Functions
•Read blueprint or job order for specifications for dimensions and tolerances and tooling instructions for holding devices.
•Positions and secures tools on holders.
•Lifts work piece manually or with a hoist, positions and secures work piece in holding device, manual chuck, centers or fixture.
•Sets specified rotation speed, feed rate, depth of cut, and positions tool in relation to work piece.
•Indicates parts in three jaw and four jaw chucks, splits and fits job by turning face, ID or OD to meet blueprint specifications.
•Turns step on dies to blueprint specifications.
•Turns mandrels and die inserts for die and/or housing according to blueprint specifications.
•Other duties include housekeeping to ensure a safe and productive working atmosphere and others specified by supervision.
