Financial Analyst I/II

With limited or no supervision, this position is responsible for compiling and preparing financial reports (monthly forecasts, quarterly current estimates, and ten-year plan); providing meaningful and concise variance analysis of actual performance compared to plans, forecasts and prior periods; and training other financial analysts.

Compiles, consolidates, analyzes and prepares financial reports for forecasts and long-range financial plan. Supports various district/department management and staff and finance and accounting staff in analyzing and compiling forecasts and long-range financial plan. Provides meaningful and concise variance analysis of actual performance compared to plans, forecasts and prior periods. Maintains proprietary budget/forecast module, including cost responsibility and operations and maintenance budget/forecast reports, and understands underlying processes. Performs special projects and analysis as required. Provides technical input to assist in development of project planning. Makes recommendations for risks and opportunities. Performs any additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.

A bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, business administration or related field; or equivalent work experience. Typically six years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree. Four or more years' experience in financial accounting, financial planning, finance, public accounting or other related experience. Excellent communication skills oral and written, including the ability to interact well with all levels of management and team members. Advanced spreadsheet skills and thorough understanding of accounting financial statements to facilitate modeling. Strong word processing skills and aptitude to effectively use proprietary and database software. Working knowledge of e-mail; presentation software is required. Effective interpersonal, organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills with knowledge of financial analysis methods and tools. Ability to complete multiple tasks under time constraints and function well under pressure. Extended work hours will be required, especially during the planning process or other critical times. Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley and technical knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
