Position Summary
The Financial Accountant is responsible for the development of complete and accurate financial records and statistical reports through the processing of transactions, the reconciliation of accounts and the preparation of financial statements. The Financial Accountant is also responsible for ensuring a timely month end close process.
Primary Position Responsibilities
•Assists in preparing financial statements and related supplemental reporting monthly.
•Prepares journal entries to record necessary transactions in the general ledger on a daily and/or monthly basis.
•Assists in reviewing all journal entries submitted by other accountants, subsidiary ledgers or other electronic interfaces daily.
•Assists in reconciling all cash collections, revenue, and billing activity to the general ledger on a daily and monthly basis.
•Maintains miscellaneous accounts receivable subsidiary ledger including customer maintenance, invoice creation/processing, payment posting and reconciliation to the general ledger on a daily and monthly basis.
•Posts journal entries to general ledger on a daily and/or monthly basis.
•Prepares reports using spreadsheets, accounting software, or other business intelligence software as required.
•Prepares and reviews annual budgets and monthly budgets to actual reports.
•Preparation and submission of internal and external reports.
•Complies with established CoServ safety and operating rules, procedures and guidelines including reporting unsafe practices to a supervisor.
•Complies with established CoServ Information Security Handbook, policies, procedures, and guidelines including reporting suspected information security incidents to Tech Support.
Secondary Position Responsibilities
•Assists in preparing all audit work papers for internal and external auditors.
•Assists in preparing Unclaimed Property Returns on an annual basis.
•Prepares accounting department correspondence for internal/external purposes.
•Responsible for obtaining and maintaining knowledge of software systems required for their job.
•Assists in testing new functionality of accounting software.
•Responsible for obtaining and maintaining knowledge of the utility industry.
•Assists accounting staff as needed.
•Receives training as directed by the CFO, Director of Accounting and/or Financial & Budget Accounting Supervisor.
•Performs other duties and activities as directed.

Position Requirements
Education and Certifications Required
•High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalency.
•Accounting degree or equivalent accounting experience.
Education and Certifications Preferred
Experience Required
•Minimum 5 years previous accounting, general ledger and financial experience required.
Experience Preferred
•Previous utility experience.
Skills and Abilities Required
•Knowledge of PC software and spreadsheet applications required.
•Must possess excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
•Must be dependable, detail oriented and a team player.
Skills and Abilities Preferred
•Knowledge of National Information Solutions Cooperative software.
•Knowledge of WEBI XI business intelligence software.
Physical Requirements
•Operates office equipment such as a computer, telephone, fax machine, copier, etc.
•Indoor, office environment.
•Ability to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
•Ability to drive occasionally as needed.
•Ability to sit for long periods of time.
•Requires frequent sitting, standing, walking, bending, and reaching.

•Must have and maintain a valid Texas driver's license.
