We are currently seeking a dedicated Financial Accountant to join our growing team at our Calgary head office.
Position Summary:
Reporting to the Controller, the Financial Accountant will be responsible for supporting the preparation of financial statements and assisting with key financial reporting tasks. This role is an excellent opportunity for an accounting professional with oil and gas industry experience has recently completed their CPA designation.
Key Responsibilities:
•Assist the Controller in the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, ensuring compliance with IFRS and regulatory standards.
•Perform general ledger account reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
•Prepare and post journal entries to ensure accurate and timely recording of financial transactions.
•Collaborate with operational teams to gather, analyze, and verify financial data for reporting purposes.
•Participate in month-end and year-end closing processes, including preparing accruals and performing variance analyses.
•Support internal and external audit processes by providing necessary financial data and documentation.
•Prepare management reports and contribute to financial forecasts and budgeting activities as required.
•Research and analyze IFRS accounting issues, including new accounting pronouncements as they arise and ensure compliance with GAAP principles.
•Identify and recommend process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy in financial reporting.
•Maintain a strong understanding of current accounting standards, practices, and industry regulations.
•Various ad-hoc requests as required
Qualifications and Skills:
•Minimum of three years of applicable industry or public practice experience.
•Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation.
•Knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS). Ideal candidates will have experience with midstream oil and gas accounting.
•Experience with Qbyte or equivalent oil and gas accounting software is considered an asset.
•Proficiency in financial statement preparation and general ledger accounting.
•Advanced Excel skills and familiarity with financial systems and reporting tools.
•Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
•Detail-oriented with a commitment to accuracy.
•Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a collaborative mindset.
