SkyTEM is seeking an eager and able-to-travel field worker to operate proprietary airborne geophysical survey equipment used to map subsurface features from a helicopter platform in a variety of working conditions. The work is in-field and per project-based. Our projects are focused in the USA and Canada; however, as a global company there may be opportunities for projects based outside of these regions.
Crew rotations are typically between 4 and 6 weeks away from home at a time, with 2-3 weeks off time (at home) in between. This fluctuates dependent on project dates and operating requirements.
- Assemble SkyTEM proprietary equipment and sensors, operate instruments competently as per training and standard operating procedures.
- Undertake logistical reconnaissance, selection and management of remote landing locations.
- Plan and communicate instructions and directions to the helicopter pilot regarding survey parameters.
- Perform various quality control and troubleshooting tests, accurately record results throughout the data collection process.
- Master the operation of the SkyTEM system and troubleshoot faults according to instruction manuals, on job experience, or in direct contact with a remote technician.
- Understand, implement and adhere to SkyTEM’s Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE) system.
- Update job-specific documents including HSE plans, risk assessments, daily reporting and quality control logs.
- Effectively communicate project status, schedules and foresee potential issues before they arise.
- Coordinate and cooperate with external partners, including pilots, local authorities, landowners, and client representatives.
- Travel to and from project sites independantly by various methods of transportation including commercial flights, small charter aircraft or company vehicle.
- No specific educational background requirement, but excellent mechanical, electrical, as well as electronic competency are essential to be successful.
- Strong technical computer capabilities at a level above an ordinary user are required.
- Excellent proficiency in English (writing and speaking); other languages such as French, Spanish, or Portuguese are an advantage.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently or as part of a small team under minimal supervision.
- Be well-organized, a self starter and service-oriented while performing daily tasks with exceptional attention to detail.
- Physically fit with the ability to work under relatively harsh weather and living conditions often in remote isolated locations.
- Valid driver’s license is required
- Valid passport and willingness to travel.
- Dual USA/Canadian citizenship is an advantage.
