Perform general construction and testing tasks which involve some physical labor for underground corrosion inspection projects at customer sites. The majority of tasks involved include manual excavating of soil around selected test sites at various locations throughout the United States. Overnight travel is required and all travel related expenses will be paid by the company. A daily per diem for meals will be provided. This position will also involve assisting technicians and engineers with test setups, photographing and recording of test data.
Specific Tasks Involved – The position involves but is not limited to the following tasks:
- Excavation of soil (2 feet deep x 2 feet wide) utilizing hand and power tools
- Restoration of project site to original or better condition utilizing hand and power tools, includes backfilling of excavated areas and compacting the soil
- Assisting with loading and unloading light equipment and supplies
- Assist technicians and engineers conduct field testing and recording of data as needed
- Basic knowledge of proper use of equipment, materials and supplies used in construction work.
- Basic knowledge of applicable safety precautions.
- Ability to work independently and complete daily activities according to work schedule per project manager’s direction.
- Ability to lift heavy objects, walk and stand for long periods of time and perform physical labor under possible adverse weather and field conditions.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing as required.
- Ability to use equipment and tools properly and safely.
- Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions.
- Ability to meet attendance schedule with dependability and consistency.
- Ability to use and read electronic hand held meters a plus but not a necessity.
- Familiarity with operating a PC Computer
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
- Valid appropriate state driver’s license (general operator license).
- Willingness and ability to perform manual work following verbal and written instructions.
- Regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in outside conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and possible marsh.
- Must be able to lift, push, pull or carry objects, use abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support over time without fatigue.
- Requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arm, two hands) and multi-limb coordination.
- Must be able to quickly move arms and legs.
