Our plant operations in Hobbs, New Mexico is seeking a Field Network Technician.
The Field Network Technician is responsible for setting up and maintaining communication networks at various field locations. This role will work closely with the SCADA group to ensure reliable data transmission, troubleshoot, and upgrade field equipment, install cellular modems, and oversee tower crew operations when required.
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Install, configure, deploy, and maintain networking infrastructure at multiple sites.
- Support the SCADA team to ensure secure and reliable network connectivity.
- Monitor for and respond to critical incidents, providing onsite and/or remote troubleshooting and support.
- Maintain equipment inventory lists including description, location, status, and history of changes.
- Follow documented policies and procedures to ensure company cybersecurity and compliance standards are met.
- Work independently with general supervision, keep leadership informed, and escalate to experts when required.
- Install patch panels, racks, UPS, PDUs and cables in industrial field locations.
- Install and configure routers, firewalls, switches, cell modems, and wireless access points.
- Configure static IP addresses, DHCP reservations, NAT rules, and troubleshoot DNS/DHCP issues.
- Ability to analyze data, identify trends, and develop solutions to operational problems.
- Understanding of the OSI model, TCP/IP, subnetting, routing, IP addressing, DHCP, DNS, and NAT.
- Thorough understanding of SCADA systems, communication protocols (e.g., Modbus, IEC 60870-5), network technologies, and process control systems.
- Proficiency with diagnostic tools such as ping, traceroute, ipconfig, Wireshark, and device-specific CLI.
- Familiarity with field communication infrastructure including site surveys, technical diagrams, cabling, solar panels, batteries, cell modems, radios, fixed wireless, and communication towers.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Strong knowledge of SCADA systems and field communications.
- Operational responsibilities of critical infrastructure in the Oil & Gas industry, especially Midstream, highly desired.
- System Operations in a Control Room setting helpful.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently.
- Excellent computer skills Microsoft Office (or comparable) products. Intermediate Excel skills for data tracking and analysis.
- Ability to learn new technical skills quickly and adapt to evolving technologies.
- Valid driver’s license - This position requires travel to field locations and the ability to troubleshoot technical issues in remote environments.
- Observe and take remedial action on equipment issues.
- Read and interpret gauges, equipment logs and specifications.
- Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
- Maintain effective working relationships.
- Must live within a one hour drive to our plant operations in Hobbs, New Mexico.
- Working both indoors and outdoors, at office desks, networking racks, and remote field communication sites.
