FIELD MECHANICAL MAINTENANCE MECHANIC

Classification​: Non-Exempt Reports to: Lift Station Supervisor

JOB DESCRIPTION

Summary/Objective The Mechanical Maintenance Mechanic maintains Lift/Pump Stations including regulators, repair of pumps and controls, maintenance and repair of stations.

Essential Functions

1. Performs station checks

2. Trouble shoot and repair regulators, pumps and control panels

3. Building maintenance including mowing/painting

4. Maintain records of inspections and repairs

5. Installation of new equipment/new service

6. Promotes courtesy and professionalism throughout the City of Huntington

Competencies

1. Reasonable knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems and electronics

2. Reasonable knowledge of safety practices including Lock out/Tag out and confined spaces

3. Ability to read wire schematic

4. Ability to work independently

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in collection system facilities, but work in the treatment plant and office building may be required. Exposure to all types of weather conditions including extreme heat and cold. Employee is frequently exposed to raw sewage, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud.

The employee is frequently required to drive; climb stairs; walk on uneven surfaces; climb or balance; bend; talk, hear touch and smell. The employee is regularly required sit, squat, kneel or crouch. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Schedule

This is a full-time position. Primary days of work are Monday through Friday. Must be available for 24-hour callout. Participates in Emergency Response System.

Travel

Minimal travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience

Minimum High School diploma or GED

Preferred Education and Experience

Experience in electrical, mechanical, welding, plumbing

Additional Eligibility Qualifications

Valid driver’s license

Basic computer skills

Class C Collections Certification after hire
