Field Communications Network Technician

Overview:

A Field Communications Network Technician job description involves installing, testing, maintaining, and troubleshooting systems that enable voice, video, and data communication, including fiber optic lines, network routers, and wireless infrastructure. Responsibilities include reading schematics, configuring equipment, performing signal tests, and ensuring network uptime and reliability. Key roles in the field include technicians who handle the physical infrastructure, specialists who oversee network design and security, operators who manage call systems, and engineers who plan and develop communication systems.

Responsibilities:

- Deploy, mobilize, and demobilize communication systems to support field operations.

- Configure, maintain, and support IS systems and field communications infrastructure.

- Provide helpdesk support to field personnel for troubleshooting hardware and software issues.

- Install and set up internet, intercom, telecom, and remote monitoring equipment.

- Manage hardware and software inventories across field operations.

- Utilize Microsoft tools (Active Directory, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) for documentation and system support.

- Promote and manage IT security policies and best practices in the field.

- Complete additional technical duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

- 2+ years of Oil & Gas experience required. - 1+ year telecommunications. - 1+ year of experience working in technical teams preferred

- Ability to configure, maintain and support IS Systems and Field Communications.

- High School Diploma or GED required.

- Any experience installing any or all of internet, cable, intercom, telecom, satellite, or remote monitoring equipment.

- Experience with ethernet and serial connector terminations.

- Ability to understand IP/Subnet/Gateway concepts.

- Ability to change NIC card settings.

- Comfortable with configuration using a remote connection.

- Experience with Microsoft technologies such as Active Directory, Word, Excel, and Power Point.

- Maintains hardware systems to facilitate communication and ensure that business activities are properly measured and captured into integrated databases.

- Manages and promotes current IT security measures

- Provides technology/helpdesk support to team members for problem resolution.

- Deployment of Communications systems, mobilizing and demobilizing the units when needed and ensuring the proper operational functionality of systems
