THIS POSITION IS A TRAVEL ROLE AND REQUIRES EXTENSIVE OVERNIGHT TRAVEL TO SUPPORT SHORT- AND LONG-TERM PROJECTS ACROSS THE UNITED STATES.
THIS POSITION MAY BE FILLED AS A LEVEL 1, LEVEL 2, OR LEVEL 3 SPLICER DEPENDING ON EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND QUALIFICATIONS.

The Splicer is responsible for splicing, testing, and repairing cables/wires, troubleshooting both indoor and outdoor settings. They will also read, create, and maintain splicing diagrams, maintain activities surrounding the jobsite(s) and take splicing field notes. Daily work will involve traveling to different jobsite locations, survey, plan and execute placing/repairing of client facilities.
- Shall be responsible for preparation and splicing of fiber/coax cable within a telecommunication system. Job requires a good working knowledge of a telecommunications network structure; build enclosures, use OTDR and fusion splicing equipment, ability to read fiber matrix; ability to interpret/analyze data, ability to identify/ troubleshoot problems.
- Knowledge of basic electricity, as it relates to Telecommunications including: basic principles such as voltage, current, resistance, power, grounding, insulation, Ohms & AC/DC. Operation and application of measurement instruments such as multi-meters.
- Perceive differences in wire and cable color.
- Climb and work at elevations.
- Complete daily inspections and reporting of maintenance issues on vehicles, trailers, and equipment.
- Perform service, safety checks, check oil and fluids, and minor repairs on equipment.
- Connects wire and cables to terminals and attaches/detaches various kinds of hardware to wires, cables, buildings, or poles.
- Ability to lift and manipulate splice enclosures/prep enclosure and other plant equipment.
- Ability to fully understand and operate technical equipment, including computers, power meters/light sources, OTDR, Pon testing and fusion splicing equipment.
- Maintain quality of tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- High School Diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Valid U.S. Driver’s License.
- Class A CDL is preferred.
- At least 6 months prior experience in fiber and/or coax splicing applications.
- Knowledge of reading prints.
- Working knowledge of telecommunications preferred.
- Ability to operate equipment, including, but not limited to power tools, electronic testing equipment, air compressor and heavy equipment such as bucket truck, etc.
- Must have the ability to work safely, with or without supervision.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Prior experience identifying above or below ground utilities or hazards.
- Experience operating excavators, trenchers, or plows.
- Prior knowledge of overseeing and maintaining respective equipment.
- At least 6 months prior experience operating related heavy equipment.
