Position Overview:
The Estimator will generate and organize detailed cost estimates in support of planned civil works for upcoming utility-scale solar and BESS projects. This individual will collaborate and work directly with both the Preconstruction and Operations teams to assemble detailed RFP’s, solicit and gather pricing from subcontractors, in addition to generating and presenting detailed self-perform estimates for all civil scopes of work. The objective is to develop budget certainty and support all preconstruction planning initiatives.
Essential Functions:
•Ability to read and understand plans/drawings, specifications, supplier proposals, subcontractor quotes, and other pertinent documentation.
•Assist the project team with generating project cost allocations.
•Calculates various statistical data: quantity take-offs, material price lists, labor costs, equipment cost, and specialty items.
•Communicates with site teams remotely and in person at the project sites concerning items such as work methods, production requirements, and historical data.
•Create and manage detailed quantity and costs take-offs from conceptual, preliminary, or detailed engineering packages.
•Formulation of crew sizing, resources and productivity related to the work.
•Organize, research, and strategically plan for estimate preparation, pricing, scheduling, and final presentation.
•Other related estimating and preconstruction responsibilities as assigned.
•Prepares and presents internal preview and final estimate review process with the Preconstruction Team.
•Responsible for compiling comparisons to determine most commercially and technically compliant costs.
•Review options and recommend best solution based on experience, cost, engineering, quality, or regional availability of materials.
•Review project schedules, estimate installation rates and general project execution strategies, related to all civil activities.
•Track and research historical project data (purchase orders, subcontracts, productivity analysis reports, etc.) and develop guidelines and precedence for future estimates.
•Track project clarifications and assumptions made during the estimating process all the way into the Project contracting phase.
Qualifications:
•Strong teamwork orientation, initiative, communication, problem-solving, and leadership skills.
•Structured time management and self-motivated.
•Conceptual estimating and an understanding of civil design related to solar construction is required.
•Construction field experience is required.
•Minimum of 3 years of renewable energy industry estimating experience, including knowledge of civil installation methods, estimating techniques, and material pricing.
•Must have a valid driver’s license and good driving record.
•Positive, professional attitude with strong customer service skills.
•Possess strong written and verbal communication skills.
•Proficient in HCSS, Microsoft Office 365, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, and related software programs. Experience with civil estimating systems is helpful but not required (i.e. AGTEK)
•Post-secondary degree in construction management, construction engineering or equivalent experience preferred, but not required.
Working Conditions:
•Combination of in-office and remote work.
•General work environment – sitting for long periods, standing, walking, typing, carrying, pushing, bending. Work is conducted primarily indoors with varying environmental conditions such as fluorescent lighting and air conditioning.
•Noise level is usually low to medium; it can be loud on the jobsite.
•Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs.

•Travel as required for pre-construction site visits and to review current operations on projects under construction, expect to travel 5 to 10 times per year.
