Environmental Specialist

Job Summary:

This position is accountable for reviewing and providing interpretation of certain environmental regulations for the Company and serves as a functional interface to assist departments affected by those regulations. The position also serves as corporate contact with regulatory agencies concerning specific environmental matters and for coordination in the areas of compliance reporting, securing permits/licenses, environmental training, developing compliance strategies, and seeking beneficial changes to environmental regulations.

Job Requirements:

- Bachelor's degree in engineering, chemistry, biology, or environmental science is required.

- Experience in environmental compliance; understanding applicable regulations, permitting programs is required and electric utility operations is preferred.

- A minimum of 5 years work experience in environmental related areas is preferred.

- Broad knowledge and experience in one or more of the following electric utility related compliance areas – air, water waste, natural resources

- Excellent interpersonal, customer service, written/oral communication skills and the ability to build and maintain positive relationships with employees, internal customers, and other stakeholders.

- Motivated, flexible, Self -directed team player.

Job Responsibilities:

- Understand and interpret existing and new assigned environmental regulations and their applicability to Company facilities and operations.

- Develop and implement appropriate compliance strategies for all Company facilities.

- Manage timely and complete submittal of permit applications, required reports, notifications, etc.

- Continually seek ways to achieve compliance in a manner which considers reliability and operational issues, and costs to our customers.

- Maintain strong working relationships with state and federal regulators and other relevant stakeholders; negotiate complex issues as required.

- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction with internal allies and stakeholders.

- Keep the manager and other management proactively informed of significant issues in a timely manner

- This position will require occasional overnight travel.
