Job Title: Environmental Scientist Intern Reports To: Environmental Manager Location: New Mexico – East
An Environmental Scientist Intern assists the Environmental Team with environmental compliance activities.
Corporate housing in Carlsbad, NM will be provided for the Intrepid internship program.
- Assist with a variety of environmental tasks, including: air and water quality monitoring, site based environmental compliance inspections, proper control/disposal of hazardous materials, data organization and interpretation, etc.
- Maintain various records related to permit requirements
- Observe all safety and company rules
- Perform other duties as assigned
- Valid Driver’s License
- High school diploma or GED
- Actively pursuing a degree in Environmental Science or related field
- One to two years related experience or training preferred
- Ability to be comfortable in both surface and underground industrial operations (ex: going underground, climbing stairs on surface, etc.)
- Knowledge of MSHA and/or OSHA regulations is a plus
- Excellent written and verbal communications required
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite PC software
SCHEDULE AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
9/80 schedule, Monday - Thursday, 9-hour workdays, Fridays worked, 8-hour workday, with every other Friday off. Schedule subject to change.
- Combination of outdoors, in a non-temperature controlled environment, and subject to weather conditions, and in an indoor, temperature-controlled office environment
- Exposed to loud sounds and distracting noise levels
Employees are required to wear safety attire and personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times
- Standing, walking, using hands, reaching with hands, climbing and stooping up to 2/3 of the time
- Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs. – lifting will be required up to 2/3 of the time
- Must be able to climb and descend vertical ladders and stairs
- The environment may consist of moving mechanical parts and high/precarious places
- Must be able to perceive color differences
- Will be required to wear personal protective equipment as needed
A pre-placement physical and hair follicle drug test will be required for anyone selected for this opportunity. Placement into the position will not be made until the results are received and cleared by Intrepid.
