They focus on early-stage engineering and scope development (stage 4.2 scope) at the front end of the project cycle for initiatives initiated by Transmission Planning & Asset Management (TPAM), Distribution Planning & Asset Management (DPAM), or external interconnection requests.

As a Gridtern, you will have the opportunity to attend one or more site visits each week with engineers to various substation sites and transmission rights-of-way. Throughout the summer, you will work on a project that aligns with your expertise, focusing on emerging technologies in the utility sector. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary engineers, gaining insights into various design practices and company engineering standards. Additionally, you will have the chance to shadow other departments of interest, as well as observe the day-to-day tasks performed by the operations and maintenance groups for substation and transmission projects. This internship will provide you with valuable firsthand experience and exposure to the dynamic field of power engineering.

Our Property Services team plays a vital role in supporting both facilities and capital projects for over 50 National Grid sites in New England. This summer, you will have the opportunity to gain valuable exposure to our capital processes, our various sites, and how this group supports the daily operations of the company. You will track the performance of EV charging stations and monitor utility consumption at National Grid facilities while learning about our capital project delivery processes and practices.

The team prepares engineering analyses using Synergi hydraulic modeling software to assess the gas system's capability to deliver gas safely and reliably under normal, peak (winter), and contingency/emergency conditions. Collaboration with various internal stakeholders, including the Gas Control Center, Construction & Field Operations, Instrumentation & Regulation, Customer Connections, and Emergency Planning, is essential to our operations.

As a Gridtern, you will gain insights into National Grid and the natural gas business while understanding the department's responsibilities through shadowing and training. You will support the review of Gas Capacity Requests (GCRs) from new customers seeking to connect to the gas network. Additionally, you will work on projects such as updating the department's SharePoint site, refreshing job aids for accessing applications, and assisting with a scanning and indexing project for current paper inspection forms.
