We also have interest in several other oil sands projects, including Hangingstone, operated by Greenfire Resources Operating Corporation and Syncrude’s oil sands mining upgrading facility. In addition to our oil sands business, we have shale gas land in Northeast British Columbia, a power station in Balzac, Alberta, and interest in a wind farm in southern Alberta. Calgary is our regional corporate office for all North America.

Your Background

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Applied Science, or its equivalent, and professional registration with APEGA or eligibility acceptable;

Minimum 15 years broad engineering experience, including responsible administrative duties;
Broad knowledge of the Operations and Engineering function within Oil and Gas operating company;
Strong project development and execution management skills;
Requires sound leadership abilities to conceive program goals and directions, plans work efforts, establish and motivate an effective team;
Fully familiar with Canada regulations and commitments related to the Oil & Gas industry;
Sound business knowledge including an understanding of key financial components of the business;
Experience in managing engineering contractors and also managing integrated contracts;
Highly effective relationship builder at all levels, internally and externally;
Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills, strong organizational and leadership skills with the ability to work in a flexible team environment;
Ability to work independently and on a team by effectively handling cultural, political and economic differences.


Your Role with Our Team

Reporting to the GM of Engineering and Construction, this position provides technical leadership to support CPNA’s staff and contract Engineers as well as dedicated project teams with engineering management and discipline resources. Role will ensure strong technical delivery, functional excellence and assurance. This position is part of the E&C leadership team, and therefore carries additional leadership accountabilities. Main accountabilities of the role include but not limited to:

Resource and lead the engineering team to provide effective technical support to all CPNA E&C activities;

Ensure processes and system are implemented to ensure the team is consistently applying sound engineering principles and work is performed in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner;
Develop and manage engineering budget to ensure adequate financial controls and reporting structures are in place;
Manage engineering resource requests, prioritization, and governance processes in liaison with business units and functional teams;
Proactively manage relations with engineering contractors, EPC firms and government regulatory bodies;
Monitor the Engineering performance of key contractors developing highly positive and constructive relationship;
Provide leadership, direction and coaching to personnel to enhance levels of performance and ensure career development plans are in place to support employees;
Manage effectively the recruitment, selection, training and competency plans for the engineering team;
Works collaboratively and ensures that team members demonstrate willingness and ability to collaborate with others to achieve key results;
Encourages learning and innovation by leveraging skills and lessons learned from other organizations including CNOOC functional departments;
Ensure appropriate rigor applied for assurance review, gate reviews and Project look- back exercises;
Lead planning activities and clearly define goals for the team to support CPNA’s Key Results and particularly E&C goals.
