Engineering Intern

Towantic is a 785 MW, 2x1 dual-fuel combined cycle power plant featuring two GE 7HA.01 combustion turbine generators and a GE D602 steam turbine. It is a natural gas-fired facility that generates electricity efficiently. Oxford is a residential town situated in western New Haven County, Connecticut.

Opportunity Summary

The Engineering Intern assists in the safe and efficient operation of the power plant and the supporting equipment and systems. This position will be expected to support various projects as determined by department managers.

Primary Functions

Assist with cycle performance monitoring and improvements, data entry in Maximo Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) and other plant projects.

Comply with all facility environmental, health and safety policies and procedures. Perform other duties as required or assigned within scope of abilities.

Compensation

The hourly rate of pay will be $20.00 per hour.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

Work takes place in a power plant environment requiring extended periods of standing, stair and ladder climbing, and lifting up to 50 pounds.

Must wear protective equipment for certain tasks (e.g., hard hats, safety glasses, air masks, ear protection).

Fitness for Duty

All employees will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program. This program includes a post-offer physical examination and drug screening.

There are extensive smoking restrictions in and around the facility.

Work Schedule

Normal working hours are 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. Work is performed on an industrial site requiring protective clothing and equipment.

Education and Experience Required

We are accepting applications from current students enrolled in an Engineering program; third year student in mechanical or electrical engineering preferred. Educational concentration in power generation systems and equipment, including operational theory and engineering safety is desired.
