ENGINEER INTERN

JOB SUMMARY

Works under the direct supervision of either the Engineering Manager or the Design Manager to assist Engineers, Designers, and Project Managers in designing and managing water infrastructure projects.

JOB DUTIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs a variety of tasks and duties and functions which may include, but are not limited to, assisting in the following:

•

Design of Company water systems;

•

Preparation of cost estimates, engineering specifications, work authorizations and contracts;

•

Observing Company projects including budget and schedule;

•

Checking engineering drawings for accuracy of design and dimensions;

•

Conducting tests of materials and equipment;

•

Making or assisting in field surveys;

•

Observing Work in conjunction with Division Managers, developers, and contractors to ensure that all water system construction conform to Company specifications;

•

Providing technical assistance and research to Project Managers, Engineers, and Division Managers

•

Observe and document the design and operational aspects of construction projects with Division management; and,

•

Performs other duties as assigned.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Skills, knowledge and physical requirements include, but are not limited to:

•

Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.

•

Must be able to operate a personal computer and be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and CAD software.

•

Ability to organize, analyze, interpret, and evaluate scientific engineering problems and provide practical, cost-effective solutions.

•

Measure distances using calibrated instruments.

•

Work cooperatively with others.

•

A neat and professional appearance.

•

Must be dependable, punctual, and have good attendance.

•

Ability to perform repetitive physical activities including walking, standing, sitting, reaching, bending, grasping, stooping, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

•

Must be able to assist during inspection of construction sites and water system facilities.

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

The following are required:

•

High School graduate or GED.

•

Be enrolled in Bachelor's degree program in civil or mechanical engineering.

•

College enrollment in a related field may be substituted if the applicant has at least one year of engineering study.

•

Must be competent in mathematics as applied in engineering calculations.

•

Be able to read specifications and contract documents and draw maps and plans and have the ability to learn how to interpret and understand the construction of facilities to be built.

•

Understand that they are a representative of the Company with customers, government agencies, suppliers, and contractors.

•

Must demonstrate a desire to learn the experience and knowledge to gain an overall understanding of engineering proficiencies related to water utility design and water system operation and desire to have that knowledge lead to securing Professional Engineer's Certificate after obtaining required schooling and experience.
