Job Summary:
We are currently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineering Field Technician to join our Mining Engineering Division. The technician will support various field and office-based tasks related to anthracite surface mining operations. This includes surveying, data collection, environmental inspections, and technical reporting. This position is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, has a strong technical or engineering background, and wants to be part of a close-knit, multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities:
•Perform field surveys using GPS, drone, and total station equipment to support mine planning, reclamation, and permitting.
•Collect and record topographic, geotechnical, and hydrologic data across active and reclaimed mine sites.
•Assist engineers with pit mapping, stockpile monitoring, and volume calculations using drone photogrammetry and CAD software.
•Support compliance efforts by inspecting erosion controls, water management structures, and haul roads.
•Assist in preparing as-built drawings, field sketches, and documentation for permitting and environmental reporting.
•Help conduct drone flights for cut/fill analysis and site visualization (Part 107 certification preferred or willingness to obtain).
•Interact with Reading Anthracite Company personnel and other stakeholders to coordinate field activities.
•Maintain field equipment, logs, and project records in accordance with company and regulatory standards.
•Participate in regular safety training and comply with all MSHA regulations and site-specific safety policies.
Qualifications:
•Preferred, but not required, Associate’s degree or technical training in Civil Engineering, Mining Engineering, Surveying, Geomatics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
•1–3 years of relevant experience preferred; recent graduates with strong field aptitude will also be considered.
•Possession of an FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate is preferred. Candidates who do not currently hold the license must be willing and able to obtain it as a condition of employment.
•Familiarity with GPS equipment, CAD/GIS software, and basic drone operations.
•Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently in remote and rugged outdoor environments.
•MSHA Surface Mine Certification or willingness to obtain.
•Valid driver’s license to travel between field sites.
Salary depending on experience.
