POSITION CONCEPT:

At TEC, the GHG Engineer will play a pivotal role in driving our sustainability initiatives and meeting our vision to reduce our carbon footprint. The GHG Engineer will work at the forefront to develop and implement strategies to monitor, report, and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Collect and compile data related to greenhouse gas emissions from various sources within Tampa Electric Company. Analyze emissions data to identify trends, anomalies, and areas for improvement.
Maintain accurate records of GHG emissions, including Scope 1 (direct emissions) and Scope 2 (indirect emissions) and Scope 3. Ensure compliance with reporting protocols and standards (e.g., EPA’s Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program).
Prepare regular reports on GHG emissions for internal stakeholders, regulatory agencies, and other relevant parties. Collaborate with environmental teams to ensure accurate and timely reporting. Interface with external stakeholders and customers to provide accurate and timely information for their use. Respond to corporate initiatives and scorecard goals.
Assess the impact of climate scenarios (e.g., extreme weather events, changing energy demand) on emissions. Provide recommendations for mitigation strategies based on analysis results.
Coordinate third-party verification of emissions data, if necessary. Address any discrepancies or issues identified during the verification process.
Support the Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) Program, including REC uploading and verification, reviewing software solutions to better serve our customers, and support development of new customer REC Programs.
Stay informed about industry best practices and emerging trends in GHG reporting. Propose process improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency.




EDUCATION:


Required: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering


Preferred: N/A


LISCENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:


Required: N/A

Preferred: Preferred certification in GHG accounting (e.g., GHG Inventory Quantifier, Certified Carbon Reduction Manager).


EXPERIENCE:

Required:

Engineer I: Minimum of 18 months or 12 months with FE or EIT


Engineer II: Minimum of 4 years

Preferred: Experience working in utility generating facilities or engineering companies performing work for utility generating facilities.



KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

Required: Familiarity with local, state and federal environmental rules and regulation with a concentration in greenhouse gas related issues. Able to interpret environmental regulations and analyze potential environmental legislation for the purposes of advising and the development of compliance strategies. Established proficiency with spreadsheets and word processing as well as the ability to learn new software and apply it in everyday business analysis.

Preferred: Experience in: Electric Utility/Heavy Industrial, Environmental Consulting.
