Overview
This position is responsible for supporting procedures, programs, standards, compliance requirements, and projects designed to optimize LG&E and KU substation maintenance and capital asset replacement and upgrade investment programs, perform analytics of historical maintenance and performance data and use these analytics tools to drive prioritization of capital upgrade and replacement projects, investment programs, and maintenance procedures to maintain or exceed substation reliability goals, support field maintenance personnel in solving non routine technical and reliability issues, complete incident investigation reports and follow up assignments, inspect and review non routine work of contract field crews, complete safety observations, support emergency call in operations and other work as requested by the Manager Engineering, System Engineering.
Responsibilities
•Develops and maintains an expertise and a thorough level of understanding of major substation equipment, including testing interpretation, replacement recommendations, and equipment issue resolution support which includes dissolved gas analysis (DGA) and Doble power factor test result analysis
•Identifies and implements substation asset maintenance and capital replacement and spare strategies including development of guidelines and procedures, including utilization of software tools, including PowerBI, to enhance and complete analysis of record data.
•Performs root cause analysis and incident investigations for significant substation and failure events and makes follow-up recommendations. This includes field visits as required.
•Supports or leads renewal and asset optimization strategies for substation assets. Analyzes and makes recommendations for capital replacement strategies and capital budgets to address equipment with high failure rates or that are near end of life.
•Supports best practices and consistent utilization of Cascade within the Transmission organization.
•Leads substation asset specification, procurement and order management and commissioning support; including substation transformers, transformer rewinds and remanufactures, Load Tap Changers, free standing power circuit breakers, instrument transformers, bushings, voltage regulators and LTC controls.
•Provides Engineering support for and technical leadership in maintaining NERC and SERC compliance requirements, documents, records and procedures related to PRC-006, PRC-006-SEC-001 and PRC-005-6, FAC-008 and related field walkdowns.
•Provides overall project and construction management of assigned repair the network related capital projects, ensures projects are completed safely and efficiently, and ensures adherence to safety policies and standards requirements. Updates asset databases including Cascade and Powerbase.
•Researches and provides data and support for PSC, AEGIS, FERC Form 1, and related audits.
•Participates in and contributes to industry conferences/forums, including Doble, SEE, and DNV-GL.
•Provides customer inquiry support for key and major accounts served directly from KU and LG&E Substations.
•Provides engineering input/experience-based perspectives when consulted regarding standards, switching diagrams, designs, and other substation matters.
•Serves as a subject matter expert for substation online monitoring technologies, including field engineering support and evaluation of new products.
•Safety Core Team Support and other safety duties as assigned.
•NATF STEP and EEI Restore Program support and participation.
•Contributes to SF-6 quarterly and annual reporting process
•Supports or leads monthly D-Sub reliability update and track D-Sub SAIDI/SAIFI trends and use data to drive capital prioritizations.
•Regular attendance and group participation is essential for satisfactory performance.

Qualifications
Education Requirement
ABET Accredited Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, related engineering or engineering technology
Experience Requirement - the level will be determine based on the candidates overall requirements.
Engineer I – No years of experience required
Engineer II – Minimum 2 years of experience in engineering
Engineer III – Minimum 5 years of experience in engineering
Principal Engineer – Minimum 10 years of experience in engineering
Preferred Qualifications
Comprehensive knowledge of electrical substation, power plant or industrial operations, maintenance, asset management and testing procedures. Familiarity with or ability to become proficient with Microsoft Office applications, ORACLE Applications, Cascade, Powerbase, Doble DTA, SQL, PowerBI, DNP 3.0 protocol structure, SEL relay and RTU communications and configuration, DrawDT and related corporate information systems.
