To help achieve our business plans, Bruce Power currently has an opportunity for an Engineer/Engineering Trainee, supporting Engineering Fix It Now (EFIN) Mechanical engineering department of the Station Engineering division.
This is a permanent, full-time position which offers a competitive benefits, compensation and pension package and is located on site in Tiverton, Ontario.
As a member of the Engineering Fix It Now (EFIN) team, the focus will be on troubleshooting, station support and low complexity modifications. The Engineer/Engineer Trainee is responsible for planning, evaluating, advising, or reporting on any activity which requires the application of engineering principles in the Bruce Power facilities.
- Provides technical evaluations, advice and solutions to problems in a number of major work areas; including in support of commissioning, operation and maintenance of Bruce Power facilities.
- Monitors performance of equipment associated with their functional area to ensure operation is within design, licensing, and operating parameters.
- Identifies potential problems and opportunities in their assigned functional areas and/or systems.
- Prepares submissions outlining potential solutions including cost justification or financial evaluations.
- Discusses installation or implementation with persons concerned, and ensures, where possible, that the installation is as intended.
- Keeps abreast of maintenance and operating problems and takes action to implement solutions when appropriate.
- Cooperates with other departments and organizations in arranging tests and maintenance and in providing appropriate documentation as required.
- Keeps abreast of new developments related to their functional area and incorporates changes as appropriate.
- Ensures that documentation associated with their functional area is accurate and updated.
- Interacts with external organizations to review performance in their functional area.
- Provides input to and reviews modifications performed on equipment related to their functional area.
- Participates in training programs to further own development and assists in the development of others.
- May be required to gather and collate data for use in department/section budget or business planning preparation and to monitor variances to annual budget.
- Previous experience with reliability engineering or asset management will be considered as an asset.
- Performs other duties as required.
- Requires knowledge of physics, chemistry, mechanical, mathematics, electricity, engineering and economics to technically understand the operation of the facility.
- Requires knowledge of English in order to prepare clear and concise reports and recommendations both verbally and in writing.
- Requires advanced knowledge of one or more of these subjects to evaluate and propose improvements to processes, equipment and systems or to unit safety, reliability and performance.
- Previous experience as system, design or component engineer is an asset.
- Requires the ability to proactively recognize and manage risk.
- Experience with the design change process is an asset.
- Experience with pressure boundary program requirements is an asset.
- Completion of a 4-year University degree. Mechanical Engineering is an asset.
- An Ontario Professional Engineering designation is required (P.Eng.).
- A period of over 6 years and up to and including 8 years’ experience is considered necessary.
- Completion of a 4-year University degree in Engineering. Mechanical Engineering is an asset.
- Ability to obtain a valid Professional Engineers of Ontario certification.
- A period over 2 years, up to and including 4 years of experience is considered necessary.
