Capital Power is currently seeking an individual to join our Engineering High Voltage and Electrical team.
As a High Voltage & Electrical Engineer, you will be part of group which is accountable for technical oversight on the acquisition, development, operation and maintenance of fleetwide electrical equipment. The High Voltage & Electrical group effectively serves as stewards of equipment to identify, track, and escalate issues as required to ensure the safe, reliable, and cost-effective operation of our assets.
Reporting to the Senior SME, HV&E, you will be responsible for the delivery of day-to-day engineering and technical support for the Fleet.
You will contribute to our team by
- Evaluating and assessing critical electrical equipment such as generators, transformers, breakers and determining the priority of repairs or mitigation methods.
- Developing power systems models and performing power system analysis (arc flash, coordination, short circuit, power flow) using simulation and modelling software.
- Supporting the scope development and justification of sustaining capital and major projects.
- Responding to real-time issues on sites, to allow for safe and timely return to service of affected assets.
- Developing technical recommendations regarding the disposition of assets approaching the end of their design life.
- Supporting major maintenance and turnaround activities.
- Providing interpretation of codes, regulations, statutes and standards.
- Reviewing and developing internal operations, maintenance, and engineering guidelines, procedures and standards.
- Participating in the peer review process to ensure the responsible practice of engineering at Capital Power, in compliance with the Professional Practice Management Plan.
- Acting continually to improve technical and management skillset through formal and informal training opportunities.
What you will bring to the role
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
- Registered Professional Engineer, Professional Licensee, or Engineer-in-Training in Alberta.
- 1-5 years of engineering experience in Power Generation or Heavy Industry.
- Strong communications skills (both written and spoken).
- High level of attention to detail
- Desire to learn on the job
- Working collaboratively and building strong relationships with others.
- Ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop timely solutions.
- Understanding of electrical testing, inspection, and maintenance processes.
- Hybrid Office/Work from home position.
- Periodic travel to generation facilities for shutdown and project support as required.
- Working evenings, weekends, holidays as Operational requirements dictate.
As this is a safety sensitive position, clearance of a pre-employment drug & alcohol test is required.
