About This Job

Electrical Engineer (High Voltage)

- Be part of a group that is safety driven and values inclusion

- Work with the latest technology and innovation, in an environment where we challenge you to drive positive change

- This permanent, full-time role is based at the Kemano Power Station, with employees residing in Kitimat, BC. While the position follows a rotational schedule (Tuesday to Friday on-site), it is not a FIFO arrangement—employees commute weekly from their home in Kitimat and stay at the Kemano site during their workdays. Kitimat offers the perfect balance of small-town tranquility and access to world-class outdoor recreation.

About the role

Finding better ways to provide the materials the world needs.

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to join the Asset Integrity Team delivering business value through technical expertise and innovations in our hydroelectric generating station, located in Kemano, BC. This role involves working closely with the Maintenance and Operations teams to restore, sustain, and improve safe and stable operations while monitoring and responding to key performance measures and trends.

You will be based at the Kemano camp during their regular Tuesday to Friday work schedule. Kemano is located approximately 80 km from Kitimat, and employees are transported to and from the site by boat at the beginning and end of each rotation. Please note that transportation is provided from Kitimat only, and this is not a FIFO arrangement. On occasion, you may also be required to work from the Kitimat site to collaborate with Power Operations leaders and other stakeholders.

This is a great opportunity for motivated professionals to apply their technical expertise, drive innovations, and tackle challenges in a dynamic industrial setting while collaborating with skilled peers.

We are an open, connected international team of technical specialists using some of the most exciting data and tools on the planet. We are the world leader in automation and smart mining. We have technical development programs that are industry-leading and recognize the unique nature of your role. These provide opportunities to grow your career through a dedicated technical path while being rewarded for your unique skills.

Reporting to the Asset Management Superintendent and residing at the Kemano site from Tuesday to Friday, you will be:

- Adhering to Rio Tinto Health, Safety, and Environmental Standards in problem-solving and working practices.

- Improving equipment performance and reliability through asset management best practices.

- Innovating in planning and executing routine and major works to add value and reduce production impact.

- Creating detailed task and safe work procedures to ensure quality maintenance outcomes.

- Developing and enhancing preventive and predictive maintenance programs.

- Managing and improving material specifications, substitutions, and bills of materials.

- Provide technical assistance and support to maintainers in the field for both immediate and long-term issues, including critical matters outside of regular office hours.

- Conducting root cause analysis and defect elimination to identify and close performance gaps.

What you’ll bring

- A commitment to the safety of yourself and your team.

- At least five years of engineering experience in processing plants, mining, manufacturing, power generation, pulp and paper, or similar heavy industry environments.

- Knowledge and experience using SAP for developing maintenance strategies, work orders and spare parts

- Maintenance and Reliability experience:

- Ability to facilitate and lead Problem Solving Sessions, RCAs, FMEA

- Data driven decision making

- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering: Specialization or experience in High Voltage Generation, transmission or distribution preferred

- Registered or immediate eligibility to register as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng) with Engineers & Geoscientists of British Columbia (EGBC) and remain in good standing.

- Possess intermediate troubleshooting skills and a proactive, strategic mindset.

- Exhibit clear, engaging interpersonal and communication abilities – ability to work and engage with a variety of stakeholders.

- Excellent knowledge of work management processes.

Please note: Fly-in-fly-out arrangements are not available, but we do offer domestic relocation assistance to help you settle in and thrive. Join our team and become an integral part of our vibrant community.

Applications close the Sunday the 5th of October 2025 (Rio Tinto reserves the right to remove advertised roles prior to this date)
