Electrical Reliability Technician

Round Mountain is an open-pit mine located in Nevada, one of the best mining jurisdictions in the world. The mine uses conventional open-pit mining methods and processes ore by mill and heap leach. Kinross began operating the mine in 2003, and it has since become a continuous improvement leader in the Company’s portfolio. Round Mountain poured its 15 millionth ounce in 2018. Round Mountain and the nearby Bald Mountain mine make up Kinross’ Nevada operations.

The Round Mountain mine is an important contributor to the Nye County economy and, working with local stakeholders, has helped achieve significant improvements in healthcare and education in the area.

Job Description

Under the general supervision of the Reliability Supervisor, the incumbent performs Non-Destructive Testing and electrical repairs both preventive and post-failure of the electrical systems related to mobile equipment and standby power generation while continuously aligning daily functions to reflect Kinross’ values. They also will recommend equipment maintenance procedures that are engineered to maximize sitewide asset performance within the Kinross Way for Maintenance Guidelines.

Job Responsibilities

- Perform essential repairs on electrical assets throughout the mobile fleet.

- Help develop and maintain a preventative maintenance program for surface and underground mobile electrical equipment site wide.

- Perform thermography on various equipment and become proficient using applicable software.

- Perform electrical testing on motors and motor circuits as well as transformers and switch gear.

- Perform failure and root cause analysis as requested.

- Accept responsibility for a variety of projects outside the day-to-day activities.

- Maintain written documentation needed for regulatory requirements and company policy.

- Moving, hauling, and lifting equipment as required by the repair or maintenance being performed.

- Specify certain parts when ordering, and complete appropriate paperwork and reports.

- Train on other reliability technologies.

- Responsible for managing the RMGC Environmental Health and Safety Management system in their areas of responsibility.

- Possesses good communication and interpersonal skills.

- Compliance with all company policies and procedures including, but not limited to safety, environmental, confidentiality and code of conduct.

- Meets or exceeds established performance expectations set by management.

- Consistently exercises discretion and judgment in job performance.

- Works without risk or harm to self and others.

- Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by state agency, or must be able to pass driver competency course and exam.

- Punctuality and regular attendance required.

- Perform other related functions as assigned by supervisor.

Education and Experience

- Electrical background required; either a Technical degree or Journeyman.

- Minimum of 4 years’ experience in Industrial Electrical Maintenance.

- Be able to accurately complete appropriate paperwork associated with test equipment and process equipment.

- Training on reliability practices, procedures, or methodologies is preferred.

- Experience on the following equipment:

- MCE (motor circuit evaluator)

- Thermography

- Airborne/contact ultrasonic testing.

- Motor coupler laser alignment – Rotalign Ultra

- Must show ability on the following software programs:

- FLIR software for thermal imaging program

- Knowledge of JDE or similar CMMS preferred.

- Work will be performed both indoors and outdoors in a general industrial environment. The incumbent may be asked to work straight days or shiftwork with overtime as needed. Appropriate PPE must be worn at all times.

- General understanding of mining operations, as well as limited understanding of milling and maintenance operations.

- Working knowledge and skill with P.C. utilizing word processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software.

- Strong verbal, written, analytical and persuasive skills and the ability to interact effectively with all levels of employees and management.

- Demonstrates strong administrative, organizational and technical writing skills

- Ability to function within the qualifications outlined in the attached physical demands sheets.

Reporting Relationships

Reports to the Reliability Supervisor.
