Electrical Maintenance Planner


Job Summary

The Marathon Los Angeles Refinery located in Carson, California is looking for an Electrical Maintenance Planner. The Electrical Maintenance Planner is responsible for the development of electrical equipment maintenance work packages in accordance with established processes. Develop detailed work scope plans, prepares cost and labor-hour estimates, and requisitions materials. Identifies and implements continuous improvement and cost reduction opportunities. Coordinates with engineering and maintenance supervisors to develop complex job plans including the necessary materials and documentation. Works with operations and maintenance to manage work order backlog.

The work schedule for this role is Monday to Thursday 6 AM - 4:30 PM. Maintenance Planners rotate weekly on-call responsibilities approximate one week every three months.


Key Responsibilities

Convert approved (SAP) notifications into work orders following the established work process. Plan sequential operational steps from start to finish with estimated labor hours and duration of activities. Identify and requisition resources, materials, and additional services.
Perform field assessments to gather planning details and validate all requirements.
Review work plans and process with appropriate personnel. Verify work instructions comply with established procedures and standards at both refinery and corporate level.
Create work order packages containing detailed instructions for electricians to perform work. Ensure work orders have planned thoroughly before issuance for scheduling and contain the necessary safety plans, drawings, schematics, piping, and instrumentation diagrams (P&ID), safety data sheets (SDS), material list, safe work permit requirements, etcetera.
Ensure materials and resources are available when the job is schedule to commence.
Work with engineers to develop appropriate work plans where appropriate.
Manage planning backlog.


Education, Experience and Skills


Minimum Qualifications

Must have a High School Degree and must have at least 7 years of experience as an Electrician in a refinery, petro-chemical or similar industry OR Bachelor's Degree in related field and 3 years of experience in the electrical field. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)
Must be proficient with Microsoft: Word, Excel and Outlook.
Must be able to wear appropriate PPE in the refinery (respirator), be able to physically perform all tasks in the field and take hair drug test and physical.
Must have a valid driver’s license. (MPC determines valid status.)
Must be able to obtain a TWIC Card.
Must be legally authorized to work in the US without the need for future VISA sponsorship.
Travel Requirement is 5% or less.

Preferred Qualifications

Previous maintenance planning experience is preferred.
Previous SAP experience is preferred.
Microsoft Projects and/or Primavera Scheduling experience is preferred.
Previous Supervisory experience is preferred.
