This job will require the primary skill set of a journeyman or leadman electrician. Successful Technician must be able to work independently and in a team environment on and around energized equipment. This position also requires a working knowledge of excel/word and skill set to learn proprietary equipment software.
Associate’s degree in electrical technology and 3 years practical field experience / or 5 years practical experience residential/commercial or industrial electrical. Journeyman or leadman experience preferred.
Must have the ability to perform mathematical computations necessary to spec instrument transformer ratios and calculate meter multipliers.
The mental and physical requirements for this position include, but are not limited to the following:
· Must have the ability to communicate by exchanging information clearly and concisely with the position’s supervisor, employees, customers, the public and product vendors.
· Must be able to operate a two-way radio, telephone, computer, electrical power tools and equipment associated with troubleshooting and repair of electrical and electronic equipment. Computer literacy required.
· Must have and maintain a valid North Carolina driver’s license and be able to operate motor vehicle without assistance of another employee.
· Work is both outside and inside with considerable exposure to varied weather conditions. Occasional overtime may be required.
· Must be able to climb ladders, stoop, and bend into awkward positions to accomplish assigned responsibilities.
· Must have the physical strength to lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. of materials/equipment, without external assistance from other personnel or mechanical aids.
· Must be able to cross unlevel, wooded, muddy or otherwise unfavorable terrain and overcome obstacles such as streams, ditches, etc. to gain access to new and existing service locations.
- Must make and maintain bona fide residence within twenty (30) statute miles of assigned office.

C. Directs: District crews in the installation of Single-phase & 3-phase CT metering services
A. Revenue Metering Administration, Product Spec, Ordering, Programming, Large Account Billing and Reporting. 30%
· Responsible for the writing revenue meter specifications.
· Responsible for the development and implementation of revenue meter programming.
· Responsible for totalization and initial billing of largest revenue accounts
· Responsible for maintaining meter installation equipment inventory.
· Maintains appropriate forms and records as required of reporting and control. Improve procedures for efficiency.
B. Revenue Metering Installation, Verification, Repair and Retirement 35%
· Responsible for the testing and repairs of revenue meters
· Responsible for verifications of meter installations that confirm correct meter wiring and multiplier.
· Responsible for certification and functionality of residential & industrial solar installations in the field.
C. Supervising Revenue Meter Testing Contractors 15%
· Responsible for maintaining revenue testing program to comply with Utility Commission guidelines.
· Responsible for obtaining bids from revenue meter testing contractors.
· Responsible for providing contractors with a list of meters to be tested, and that the contractors complete the list.
D. Protective Relaying testing and maintenance 15%
· Responsible for the programming settings into recloser controls and testing to confirm correct operation.
· Responsible for the testing recloser controls in accordance with industry standards and the cooperative's testing schedule
· Responsible for inventory, installation, and maintenance of DRU (demand response units) to meet our load reduction requirements.
· Responsible for inventory, installation, and maintenance of CST (Capacitor Switching Transponder) units to ensure proper reduction of line losses.
· Assist with testing, maintenance and repair of SCADA, protective relays, fault indicators and device controls in substations and in the field.
· Assist with the programming and installation of power quality analyzing equipment. Analyzing power quality recorder results.
· Serves on Transmission Supervisor on Call rotation
Establishes and maintains the following contacts and relationships for the purpose of coordination and communication:
Directly reports to the supervisor to receive information, instructions, direction, and guidance. To coordinate project requirements and schedules. To inform supervisor of problems, findings, and results.
To coordinate the ordering, purchase, and storage of metering, DRU and CST and other equipment. To coordinate control of issuing, receiving, and disposing of meters.
To assist with metering and DRU and CST complaints and requests. To obtain assistance with meter and DRU and CST installation, modification, maintenance, and removal.
Seek bids, to direct and coordinate their activities.
To install, test, modify, maintain, and remove metering and DRU and CST equipment. To investigate meter complaints.
