DEFINITION:
The Electric Utility Maintenance Technician will be enrolled in a structured learning program where they will learn new skills associated with electrical power distribution systems maintenance. Under the direction of the General Foreman, an Electric Utility Maintenance Technician performs general maintenance tasks on company equipment as described below. Electric Utility Maintenance Technicians will not work directly on power lines or any other medium- or high-voltage equipment.
JOB SUMMARY:
Responsibilities for this position include but are not limited to:
•Complete Qualified Electrical Worker (QEW) training per OSHA requirements
•Complete QEW Level II training
•Complete OSHA arc flash training
•Qualify to operate a Forklift; Vacuum Excavation Trailer; woodchipper; skid-steer with a standard bucket, backhoe, & trencher attachments; digger-derrick; air dog; small bucket truck
· Qualify as a Confined Space Monitor
•Qualify as a Field Inspector
· Qualify as an Infrared Thermal Inspector
•Qualify as a Traffic Control Flagger
•Qualify to pull secondary services,
· Qualify for unescorted substation entry
· Qualify as a Line Patroller to locate faults during an outage
•Qualify as a Tree Trimmer for trimming branches in close proximity to power lines
· Qualify as a System Switching Operator
Perform duties as assigned by field supervisors
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
•·Able to understand verbal and written instructions,
•Move objects (i.e., connectors, switches, etc.) weighing up to 100 pounds, using a cart or other aide to assist,
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
•Distinguish colors to identify color-coded electrical circuits and equipment.
•Establish and maintain effective working relationships with management, co-workers, and the general public.
•Possess knowledge and skill in the use of construction tools, and their use.
•Able to develop situational awareness.
•Must be physically capable of climbing poles and towers.
•Must be able to effectively work in the heat of an Arizona summer.
•Must have a current Arizona Driver’s License upon hire and a CDL Class A within 90 days of hire.
•Must live within the ED3 service area or relocate within 6 months of start date.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
•High School Diploma or GED.
•Experience with heavy equipment operations, trenching for installing underground pipe or conduit; pulling wire; or electrical utility construction a plus.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
•Field work in outdoor environment.
•May work in small, cramped spaces; on or near high-voltage energized lines and equipment.
