Reporting to the Supervisor, the Electric Meter Technician is responsible to provide a variety of services surrounding residential and commercial electric meters throughout the Assigned Regions. Electric Meter Technicians work under the direction of Electric Meter Foremen, Electric Meter Supervisors and Electric Meter Operations Manager and performs physical activities in support of meter maintenance.

Roles and Responsibilities:
•Driving (75%/day) and navigating throughout the municipal area
•Entering residential and commercial property to access the electric meter to perform required work
•Services provided: installing, reading, testing, disconnecting, and/or reconnecting the electric meter as well as investigation and troubleshooting of electric metering services
•Working with energized electrical equipment to respond to meter issues for Xcel Energy
•Providing customer service with a responsibility to humility and to the customers we serve
•Working with a safety-first mindset, pride and a high quality of detail and workmanship
Success Factors:
•Ability to perform heavy manual labor for extended periods, often under adverse climatic conditions.
•Ability to lift up to 80 lbs multiple times during a work shift
•Ability to climb, dig, work in tight spaces, on uneven surfaces, walking, stooping, and kneeling
•Ability to understand and follow specific oral and written instructions
•Ability to work well independently and as a part of a team with co-workers
•Ability to pass motor vehicle, criminal background check, and comply with drug-free workplace policy
•English usage sufficient to keep records, place orders, and prepare simple narrative reports
•Willingness and ability to learn additional skills
Experience and Education:
•Two (2+) plus years of customer service experience
•One (1+) plus years of working with electricity and on ladders preferred
•An equivalent combination of education and experience may be substituted on a year-to-year basis
Additional Requirements/Licenses/Certifications:
•Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid State of Residence Driver’s License is required within two weeks of employment.
•Candidates must pass criminal and Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) background checks and pass a pre-employment drug screen.
