This position is responsible for providing EHS program support for Onward Energy power generation facilities. This EHS specialist position is a key player in fostering a safe, healthy, and environmentally conscious workplace through multifaceted duties ranging from compliance with environmental regulations to the development and implementation of health and safety programs. This role is essential in ensuring EHS compliance and advocating for our employees and the environment.
- Develop and update corporate environmental health and safety programs, documentation and records.
- Assist in data collection and reporting for corporate sustainability metrics.
- Advise management on safety and environmental concerns and company program requirements.
- Monitor and analyze work environment trends and process for potential hazards.
- Recommend corrective actions and improvements to safety practices.
- Prepare and submit necessary reports to internal stakeholders and regulatory agencies.
- Maintain and monitor corporate leading indicator program and metrics analysis.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders on EHS issues and opportunities for improvement.
- Understand current EHS regulations, proposed changes and impacts to the electric utility sector.
- Promote a culture of safety and environmental awareness.
- Assist in EHS reviews of potential resource acquisitions.
- Routine participation in EHS auditing practices by conducting routine site visits and desktop reviews.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Safety, or related field
- CSP,CIH, & CHMM professional certifications preferred
- Experience in developing and revising EHS programs and procedures
- Experience with environmental compliance areas such as waste management, hazmat handling and storage, SPCC, stormwater, and air
- Knowledge of federal and state EHS regulations
- Proficiency in risk assessment and hazard identification techniques used in hazard analysis and post incident investigations.
- Ability to analyze data and generate reports
- Experience with industrial hygiene practices and program management
- Experience with ISO 14001 or 45001 management systems preferred
- Project Management experience or PMP preferred
- Proficient with MS Office suite applications
- Keen multi-tasking capabilities, flexibility, and organizational skills; attention to detail
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Strong, creative problem-solving and analytical skills
- Ability to work well both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
