Position Overview: Vulcan Metals Corp is seeking a dynamic and experienced Corporate Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager.

This role will partner with site leaders to achieve safety and environmental compliance ensuring the sites are complying with all company and legislative environmental, health and safety requirements. The role advises and coaches the company leaders to deliver contemporary programs and services to affect sustainable change in safety and environmental performance, mindset and behaviours in line with the strategic priorities and obligations. The role is responsible for developing and enabling external relationships with applicable government authorities.

This role will also determine and report on safety and environmental performance, ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, and partner with the company leaders to guide the organization. This position can work out of Atchison, Kansas and/or Kansas City, Missouri.

Primary Responsibilities:

- Leading, developing and maintaining a safety-first culture that emphasizes risk and hazard reporting, zero workplace injury, compliance, continuous improvement, operational safety performance and accountability.

- Investigate and report promptly on all accidents and incidents in your area.

- Ensuring employees and contractors understand the company's environmental, health and safety goals, targets and required behaviours and can deliver outputs in a controlled risk environment.

- Regularly monitor and assess environment, procedures, equipment and installations to ensure acceptable risk level.

- Coach and assist the operational team leaders in conducting accident investigations, with attention given to the identification of root causes and effective corrective actions that prevent recurrence.

- Actively work with site management to mature site's EHS standards, perform site inspections and provide support to ensure inspection findings are closed per requirements.

- Support the site manager and leadership team on implementing and driving safety and environmental strategic plans.

- Setting medium and long-term safety strategy together with the site managers and site leadership teams.

- Develop the skills of identified personnel who have been deemed responsible for the day-to-day management of EHS system requirements.

- Develop relationships with external regulatory bodies required for site to ensure EHS compliance.

- Manage any applications or submissions required to ensure safety and environmental compliance for the site is understood, achieved and maintained.

- Support the site management teams in interactions with regulatory bodies.

- Analyze site EHS performance and provide recommendations on initiatives and programs to improve site performance

- Plan and monitor the safety, wellbeing and environment training plan and produce agreed course details and formats to the agreed budget.

- Provide advice and coaching of leaders in the conduct of incident reviews, internal auditing and field inspection activities to ensure compliance, and recommend actions that prevent recurrence.

- Respond to day-to-day site safety and environmental matters by providing leadership and guidance in the areas of legislative compliance, implementation and monitoring of EHS policies and systems, management and control of site hazards and risks and improvement opportunities

- Assist management in continuous improvement of all facets of the business with the aim of eliminating workplace injury and illness to all people on site. Initiate activities that stimulate and maintain employee interest and ownership in the site's accident prevention efforts.

- Ensure compliance activities are carried out including environmental reporting and monitoring such as groundwater monitoring and reporting, energy efficiency, pollution inventory, annual EHS reporting, etc. and ensure these are undertaken in compliance with legal requirements.

- Collaborate with other members of the safety and environmental team to undertake projects that contribute to the EHS strategy and plans and to the development and implementation policies and programs.

- Develop safety and environmental related communications in accordance with organization requirements

- Ensure that internal and external safety and environmental audits are conducted as needed for continual improvement of EHS activities and programs.

- Effectively prepare and present information and respond to safety and environmental related questions, data requests or concerns from group, and support managers in interactions with regulatory bodies.

- Develop the annual plan for EHS compliance activities involving the site lead team.

- Track and report progress on performance against the EHS plan on a monthly basis to ensure compliance.

- Provide leadership and guidance to the site leaders in the areas of legislative compliance, implementation and monitoring of EHS policies and systems, and management of hazard and risk.

- Coach and mentor site managers, leaders and EHS representatives in principles of safety and environmental leadership.

- All other duties as requested.


Experience:

- 5 plus years in a Health, Safety and Environment management role in multi-site environment within the manufacturing or resources industry.

- Must have a high level of hands-on experience in reviewing regulatory requirements and assessing their applicability and impact to the field.

- Experience rolling out HS&E initiatives, programs and training in a project and operational setting.

- Experience in safety culture transformation, leading and coaching leadership teams through a rigorous change management process.

- Demonstrable experience in developing and implementing policies and procedures.

- Extensive experience in facilitating incident investigation

- Experience in managing injury management and worker's compensation

Experience in driving behavioural change within an organisation

Qualifications:

- Degree in Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science or equivalent with the additional experience listed below.

- Knowledge of worker's compensation and Injury management. Return to work coordinator qualifications are desirable.


Physical Requirements:

- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.

- Occasional walking through manufacturing or operational areas, which may involve exposure to industrial environments (e.g., noise, dust, machinery).

- Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally (e.g., moving files, office supplies, or training materials).

- Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and copiers.
