The B.O.S.S. (Black Owners of Solar Services) Healthcare Integration Project seeks talented graduate students to support our innovative initiative exploring the integration of Black-owned solar energy solutions in hospitals serving BIPOC communities. This comprehensive internship program offers hands-on experience in renewable energy, healthcare sustainability, economic analysis, case study development, and community engagement.
Interns will work directly with project leaders, technical consultants, and diverse stakeholders while gaining valuable skills in project management, research, stakeholder engagement, and technical analysis. The program includes two full-time summer intern positions (Interns A & B), each with a unique focus area aligned with project needs and timeline.
The Economic & Finance Analyst Graduate Intern (SUMMER INTERN - B) will focus on the economic dimensions of hospital solar integration, including energy cost analysis, financial model development, and economic impact assessment. This role involves analyzing financial data, developing ROI models, researching financing mechanisms, and documenting economic barriers and opportunities.
The ideal candidate for this position is a financially astute analyst with strong quantitative skills and business acumen. They excel at translating complex financial concepts into practical insights and compelling visualizations. This person combines analytical rigor with creative thinking, particularly when developing innovative financing models. They possess the interpersonal savvy to engage effectively with hospital financial officers and renewable energy businesses, navigating different organizational cultures with ease. The candidate brings genuine curiosity about the intersection of renewable energy economics, healthcare finance, and community wealth-building, along with a commitment to economic equity principles.
● Analyze hospital energy expenditures and budget constraints
● Develop comparative cost analyses between grid electricity and solar alternatives
● Research existing financing mechanisms for healthcare sustainability projects
● Support the development of ROI models for different implementation scenarios
● Document financial decision-making processes within hospital systems
● Assist in organizing Financial & Policy Forum sessions
● Identify economic barriers to renewable energy adoption in healthcare settings
● Research potential incentives and policy supports for implementation
● Support preliminary economic impact analysis for workforce development
● Contribute to financial sections of case study documentation
● Current graduate student in economics, finance, public policy, business, or related field
● Familiarity with financial modeling and ROI analysis
