GENERAL DEFINITION: This is technical work operating and maintaining duplicating and copying equipment. A position
in this class receives work from various County offices and agencies, produces requested copies, and
performs preventive maintenance and routine equipment service. A position in this class is
differentiated from those in related classes by the restriction of work to the duplicating field. A
position in this class reports directly to a higher-level technical position.
- Makes copies of maps, charts, forms, reports, newsletters and other items; operates offset
printing machine, microfilm, photo reproduction and other equipment to produce copies; collates
material in prescribed order; cuts, staples, folds and otherwise processes copies as necessary to
produce finished product; may strip negatives, make plates and perform related photographic
processes; does layout, paste-up and art work.
- Keeps daily records of copies made by each County office and prepares monthly reports of same;
prepares quarterly bills for users who are charged fees for services; keeps records of supply use;
may take inventory of and requisition supplies.
- Services equipment, checking internal supplies of toners, inks, and other elements of process;
clears jammed paper routes and related malfunctions; cleans equipment of dust, debris and other
items that may affect operation; keeps area in clean and orderly condition.
- Performs related work as required.
- Knowledge of principles, practices and operation of various copy equipment, including offset and
photographic methods.
- Basic knowledge of methods and techniques used in production duplication work, including layout,
collating, cutting and binding.
- Ability to learn preventive maintenance and servicing methods applicable to copying and related
equipment.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to keep production and stores records and submit reports of same.
- Education equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade.
- Two to three years experience operating copy equipment, including offset presses and
photographic reproduction.
- Or any equivalent combination of acceptable training and experience which has provided the
knowledge, skills and abilities cited above.
