Position Overview
We are seeking a highly qualified Drilling Engineer with 7–10 years of experience in designing and executing horizontal well programs, preferably in the Permian Basin. The ideal candidate will be a member of the American Association of Drilling Engineers (AADE) and hold a BS degree in Petroleum Engineering or Mechanical Engineering.
This role requires strong technical expertise in drilling engineering, operational planning, and cost management, with the ability to work cross-functionally to ensure safe, efficient, and economic drilling operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and plan horizontal drilling programs for the company’s Permian Basin operations.
- Provide engineering support for well design, casing, mud programs, hydraulics, BHA selection, and directional planning.
- Monitor real-time drilling performance, identify risks, and implement mitigation strategies to optimize drilling efficiency.
- Collaborate with geologists, reservoir engineers, completions teams, and land to align well designs with operational objectives.
- Manage well cost estimates, AFE generation, and cost tracking to ensure projects remain on budget.
- Ensure compliance with all company policies, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
- Evaluate new technologies and drilling practices to improve safety, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency.
- Lead or participate in post-well reviews to capture lessons learned and drive continuous improvement.
- Provide mentoring and technical support to junior engineers and field staff.
Qualifications
7–10 years of drilling engineering experience with an E&P operator (Permian Basin experience strongly preferred).
BS in Petroleum Engineering or Mechanical Engineering required.
Active member of the AADE (American Association of Drilling Engineers).
Strong knowledge of horizontal drilling techniques, well control, and regulatory requirements in Texas and New Mexico.
Proven track record of managing multiple rigs and meeting drilling schedules.
Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
Proficiency with drilling engineering software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and travel to field locations as needed.
