The Drilling Engineer III will be directly responsible for the design of safe and technically sound drilling programs. The Drilling Engineer III will work directly with the Drilling Engineering Manager, On-site supervisors, Contractors, Land, Geology, Construction and Completions team employees. The Drilling Engineer III will use good judgment, exhibit leadership skills and professionalism, adhere to all safety rules and regulations, both in the office and field.
• Formulate, design and execute safe and cost effective drilling plans
• Responsible for regulatory compliance and field support while executing drilling plans
• Establish new procedures for increased drilling efficiency
• Evaluate opportunities for reduction in non-productive time
• Lead technical decisions with all departments, vendors, regulatory bodies
• Work side by side with the Drilling Engineering Manager, Site Supervisors, and contractors to ensure daily plans and execution of plans is being performed in the proper manner
• Mentor any and all employees within the drilling department
• Write Authorization for Expenditures for capital budgeting
• Secure bids for services from approved contractors and sub-contractors
• Approve invoices for work completed and audit any invoice discrepancy
• Evaluate and implement new ideas drilling techniques, including but not limited to off-site research in order to seek better methods
• Ensure well design is sufficient with completion engineers, reservoir engineers and geologists
• Effective communication with all levels of employees and contractors in a respectful and inclusive way
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management
• Well versed in computer software programs for casing design, well plans, hydraulics; Landmark software experience would be a plus
• Strong knowledge of drill bits, drilling motors, air drilling and managed pressure drilling, torque and drag for optimization
• Lead in communication with all personnel involved in drilling processes
• Ability to travel frequently in and out of state with some overnight stays necessary
• Self-motivating in projects that will benefit the team without assigned necessary
• Employment contingent upon submission to and successful completion of pre-placement drug test along with random drug testing and a motor vehicles check
• Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by management
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Petroleum preferred)
• Experience as a Drilling Engineer for 5 or more years with another company in a similar capacity
This job operates in both a professional office environment and a field environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, iPads, iPhones, laptop computers, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. This job also operates in a field environment with various equipment, dust, debris, and varying weather conditions.
Ability to lift files, open filing cabinets and bend or stand as necessary. Ability to drive for long periods of time, walk and/or stand for long periods of time, perform work in all types of weather conditions.
POSITION TYPE AND EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK:
This is a full-time salaried position. Days and hours of work are typically Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m., but can vary due to workload/needs of the company. This position requires an individual who can answer emergency calls at any time. This employee must be available to come to work during off-hours and/or weekends to address emergency conditions or other situations that may arise.
Frequent local and out of town travel is expected for this position.
