Drafter/CAD Programmer

We are currently seeking for a Drafter/ CAD Programmer that wants to grow with S+S and be a part of our team!

This position is located in Houston, TX 77011 (East Downtown).

Qualifications:

- 2+ years of drafting or CAD engineering experience in bus bar, sheet metal, or precision metal fabrication.

- Proficiency in Solid Works (Sheet Metal Module) and AutoCAD.

- Demonstrated ability to create accurate flat patterns and DXF files.

- Experience with Amada press brake programming (or comparable CNC brakes).

- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings, GD&T, and customer specifications.

- Strong understanding of forming characteristics of copper and aluminum.

- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds

- Must be punctual and reliable

- Bilingual (Spanish , English) is a plus

Responsibilities (include, but are not limited to):

CAD Modeling & Engineering

- Interpret customer PDF prints, engineering drawings, and STP/STEP files.

- Build accurate 3D models of bus bar components using SolidWorks.

- Convert imported models into true sheet metal parts with correct thickness, bends, radiuses, and K-factors.

- Validate model dimensions against customer specifications and resolve conflicts or missing information.

Flat Pattern & DXF Creation

- Develop manufacturing-ready flat patterns for all formed parts.

- Generate DXF files for laser cutting and CNC punching with clean, closed geometry.

- Apply correct bend deductions, bend allowances, and tooling radiuses based on real shop capability.

- Ensure all flat patterns are consistent with brake tooling, minimum flange requirements, and material behavior.

Press Brake Programming

- Program Amada press brakes including tooling setup, bend sequences, and collision avoidance.

- Select appropriate punches, dies, and tooling combinations based on part geometry and tolerance requirements.

- Provide production with clear setup sheets, bend direction notes, and tooling instructions.

- Support first-piece verification and adjust programs as required to achieve accuracy.

Supplemental Controlled Drawings

- Create controlled drawings for:

- Laser cutting

- CNC punching

- Press brake forming

- Hardware installation (if required)

- Include critical dimensions, bend direction, radius callouts, finish notes, and inspection checkpoints.

- Maintain strict revision control per company and customer requirements.

Quality & Documentation

- Ensure all models and drawings meet internal standards, customer specifications, and ISO 9001 requirements.

- Support PPAP and first-article documentation with accurate CAD data and flat patterns.

- Provide redlines and engineering feedback when customer drawings contain errors or inconsistencies.

- Assist Quality with dimensional inspections and root-cause investigations when forming issues occur.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

- Work closely with Programming, Production, Quality, Customer Service, and Engineering teams to resolve design or manufacturing issues.

- Communicate proactively regarding discrepancies, manufacturability concerns, or tooling limitations.

- Support continuous improvement efforts related to CAD standards, tooling selection, and bending accuracy.

Shift: Days - Monday-Saturday 5:00am-5:00pm: overtime as needed

Compensation: Depending on experience

Night shift premium - $2 additional per hour (5pm-5am)
