Interstate Natural Gas Pipelines
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Manage rate and tariff-related matters for certain interstate natural gas pipelines.
•Provide regulatory support to pipeline unit leaders in support of day-to-day operations.
•Assist in compilation of cost-revenue studies and rate case studies for various interstate gas pipelines utilizing accounting and budget information.
•Communicate rate administration policy with internal departments and ensure compliance with the policies.
•Develop rate structures for new services and pipeline expansion projects.
•Serve as the department's lead in the preparation and coordination of FERC filings (rate case, certificate filings, tariff and associated compliance filings).
•Assess rates of return earned on regulated assets.
•Manage and maintain positive relationships with internal and external customers.
•Gather and compile the necessary information to complete timely responses to data requests from regulatory agencies.
•Represent the Company in regulatory hearings (including appearing as a "live" witness) and negotiations with commission staff and customers.
•Monitor, analyze and make recommendations regarding the need to file or revise rates and tariffs while considering the Company's business strategy and federal regulatory compliance requirements.
•May participate in or complete special projects as occasionally assigned.
•Occasional travel away from the assigned area may be required.
•Other related duties as assigned.
Position Requirements
The natural gas assets on which the successful candidate would be working are managed primarily by team members located in Birmingham, AL. While Birmingham is the preferred location for this position, we will consider well-qualified applicants preferring to work at one of Kinder Morgan’s other offices (e.g., Colorado Springs, CO; Downers Grove, IL; or Houston, TX).
Education:
•Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Economics or a related field is required.
•Education in FERC and/or utility accounting is desirable.
•Education in technical areas of natural gas utility operations is desirable.
Experience / specific knowledge:
•Minimum 7 - 10 years direct work experience with rates in a natural gas industry environment is required and may also include but is not limited to working on the development of a pipeline's cost of service and rate design.
•Strong analytical skills and logical thought processes, with the ability to identify and resolve complex and sensitive regulatory (rate/tariff) issues/problems.
•Intermediate to advanced proficiency level in MS Office applications (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook) is essential.
•Proven communication and presentation skills, oral and written, with ability to communicate with a variety of individuals and personalities both internal and outside the organization.
•Ability to work with or lead a team, take directions from supervisor(s), focus attention on details, follow work rules and adhere to work schedule.
•Ability to organize and prioritize daily work and maintain strict confidentiality.
•Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks and meet time deadlines.
•Ability to perform the required and expected duties with little direct supervision.
•Ability to identify expectations in an employee/employer relationship.
•Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and a driving record satisfactory to the Company and its insurers.
•Successful completion of background check and drug screening.
Above the minimum requirements; not required but advantageous in this position:
•Regulatory relations experience with FERC and/or State Public Utility Commissions.
•Negotiation and public speaking experience will be considered.
•Experience with MS Access database is helpful, but not required.
Pay range: $170,000-$257,000 per year. This position includes a discretionary annual incentive plan. Job level and pay commensurate with experience and skill set.
