SSC Director of Quality
Location: Houston, TX
Reports To: General Manager
Position Overview:
The Director of Quality will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining North Shore Steel: Steel Service Center’s quality management system (QMS) to drive continuous improvement and operational excellence. This leadership role requires a strategic thinker who can collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance product quality, improve processes, and uphold compliance with regulatory and industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:•Develop and oversee the company’s Quality Management System (QMS) to ensure adherence to ISO 9001:2015 and other relevant standards.
•Lead quality control and assurance efforts, including inspections, testing, and audits to ensure product compliance with customer specifications.
•Establish and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for quality metrics, reporting findings and driving corrective actions.
•Collaborate with operations, commercial, and supply chain teams to improve manufacturing and processing quality.
•Implement continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and other process optimization methodologies.
•Manage customer complaints and root cause analysis investigations to resolve quality issues and prevent recurrence.
•Ensure compliance with all relevant safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
•Lead and develop a high-performing quality team, fostering a culture of accountability and excellence.
•Partner with vendors and suppliers to establish and maintain high-quality material standards and supplier audits.
•Represent North Shore Steel in customer and industry audits, ensuring successful certification and compliance outcomes.
Qualifications & Skills:
•Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Quality Management, or related field; advanced degree preferred.
•Minimum 10+ years of experience in a quality leadership role within the steel, manufacturing, or metal processing industry.
•Strong knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, ASTM, AWS, ASME standards and industry best practices.
•Experience with Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and process improvement methodologies (Green Belt or Black Belt preferred).
•Proven ability to lead and mentor teams, fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
•Exceptional problem-solving skills with experience in root cause analysis (RCA) and corrective action processes.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies.
•Proficiency in data analysis, quality management software, and ERP systems.
