Purpose
This role is designed for an external hire to join IAFD and train under the Director of Field Services (FSD) and then replace the current FSD due to planned promotion. The candidate will gain comprehensive field experience and leadership exposure, ultimately preparing to lead Field Services either as the sole FSD or as part of a multi-leader structure.
Overview
The Director of Field Services ensures the safe, timely, and cost-effective execution of assigned work scopes. This includes full-cycle management of planning, preparation, execution, quality assurance, and team performance. The role supports strategic initiatives, operational excellence, and succession planning for future leadership.
Key Responsibilities
•Oversee daily field operations and uphold service standards
•Supervise regional teams and project leads across multiple work scopes
•Assist in onboarding, training, and development of field personnel
•Collaborate with the FSD on performance metrics, budgets, and strategic planning
•Lead field initiatives and act as an escalation point when the FSD is unavailable
•Support cross-functional communication with Engineering and Sales
•Identify and manage emergent/discovery work and customer engagement protocols
•Approve service models, escalations, and talent development
•Lead integration of field data into company-wide insight.
•Ensure the quality of the work in the field meets IAFD standards.
•Develop and monitor KPIs related to safety performance, scope execution and compliance, and customer satisfaction.
•Lead change management initiatives and implement scalable processes as the business expands.
Training & Development Path
A minimum of two (2) seasons in the field is required to gain hands-on experience across all aspects of Field Services:
Field Execution & Job Control
•Learn the three core work scopes (liner - repair/replace/upgrade, expansion joints and penetration seals) and job execution: task sequencing, skill requirements, time estimates, and risk mitigation
•Build daily schedules for varying job complexities
•Identify inspection points and prevent execution errors
•Understand safety protocols, PPE, tools, and site-specific compliance
Operational Planning
•Participate in planning, scheduling, personnel assignment, and travel logistics
•Address seasonal challenges and personnel skill constraints
•Conduct daily tailboards and manage crew dynamics
Communication & Leadership
•Master customer communication standards and escalation protocols
•Learn Engineering and Sales coordination processes
•Engage with Division Leads (DLs), Foremen, and Jr. Foremen to understand team capabilities and succession paths
Candidate Profile
•7+ years of supervisory experience with multi-crew oversight
•Background in power generation or similar 24/7/365 operational environments preferred
•Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
•Willingness to travel and commit to immersive field training
•Ability to manage complex field operations and drive continuous improvement
•Customer Service oriented
•Leading teams in the field environment.
•Excellent client relationship skills
