Role Overview
The Director, Business Development for the GX Customer Solutions Group will play a pivotal role in establishing Mitsubishi Power as the leading solutions and technology integrator in the rapidly evolving energy transition market across the Americas (North, Central, and South America). This position requires an experienced professional with a strong business development and/or project development background, capable of designing project development strategies and integrating diverse Mitsubishi Power products and capabilities into comprehensive GX solutions that prioritize customer success and value creation from a commercial and financial perspective. The Director will be instrumental in translating Mitsubishi Power's strategic vision into tangible project opportunities, leading strategic initiatives with a primary focus on Central and South America, fostering strong customer and partner relationships to accelerate business growth, and championing the 'One MHI' approach for decarbonized infrastructure by fostering robust collaboration across all Mitsubishi Power entities.
Key Responsibilities
•Demonstrates our core competencies: Action oriented, change champion, customer-focused, developing self & others, and ownership.
•Collaborate closely with Mitsubishi Power core business teams, as well as other business units (SBUs), R&D, and global entities, to develop and advance integrated GX solutions tailored to specific customer needs across the Americas, with a particular focus on commercial viability and customer value proposition.
•Provide a customer-centric approach ensuring project teams execute on contract requirements and responsibilities.
•Advise Executive internal stakeholders on business development execution for large Mitsubishi Power projects as well as acting as a critical point of contact for leadership teams.
•Build, mentor, coach and expand business development teams by implementing strategies to capture new and emerging key customers.
•Develop and track key performance indicators (KPI’s) to measure the success of strategic initiatives.
•Lead the development and execution of business development strategies from capture to final contract/financial close, particularly for projects within Central and South America, ensuring alignment with the broader GX vision and strategy of Mitsubishi Power and prioritizing sustainable customer benefit.
•Collaborate with Project Development teams and Financial Analysts to ensure profitability on projects and the communication of potential financial liabilities.
•Identify and evaluate potential business opportunities, including new technologies, partnerships, and market segments, with a focus on maximizing Mitsubishi Power's impact and value proposition in GX by delivering integrated solutions that directly address customer challenges and expand Mitsubishi Power product adoption opportunities.
•Develop and present compelling business cases for new ventures, outlining market potential, competitive landscape, and robust financial projections.
•Develop and maintain a deep understanding of the GX market landscape, including technology trends, policy shifts, competitive dynamics, and customer needs across the Americas (North, Central, and South America).
•Collaborate closely with Mitsubishi Power's existing intelligence teams, providing a GX-focused strategic direction for their activities that aligns with Mitsubishi Power's overarching GX policy.
•Engage in information-driven discussions to ensure flexible, actionable, and comprehensive intelligence coverage across short, medium, and long-term horizons, directly supporting customer-facing strategies.
•Work in mutual complementarity with Mitsubishi Power's Strategy Team on strategic planning and insights related to the energy transition.
•Lead the development and execution of market research, competitive analysis, and customer segmentation activities, formulating and maintaining a long-term vision and scenarios for the GX business environment.
Requirements
•Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, economics, or a relevant field from a four-year accredited college or university is required. A graduate degree (e.g., MBA) is a plus.
•Minimum of 12+ years of experience leading business development business units specific to energy transition technologies and power generation.
•12+ years of experience in the Power Generation sector with a deep knowledge of business development related to gas turbine technology, renewable energy integration, and carbon capture.
•Demonstrated experience with the business development lifecycle, including key stage processes and funding impacts.
•Proven experience in negotiating key commercial project contracts such as partnership agreements, off-take, and feedstock agreements.
•Familiarity with capital project commercial contract management is essential.
•Strong financial acumen, including experience with financial modeling and investment analysis. Financial modeling experience is essential for this role.
•Interdisciplinary understanding of business development and energy issues encompassing technology, power markets, economics, and policy across the Americas. Ability to quickly understand the basics of a variety of subjects relating to solar and wind energy and storage, including resource studies, environmental studies, transmission issues, public relations, and public policy. Knowledge of the export market for hydrogen and hydrogen derivatives is a plus. Specific experience and network within Central and South American energy markets is highly desirable.
•Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, and strong knowledge of financial modeling tools.
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are essential. A profound appreciation for the importance of clear, consistent dialogue with global and Japanese teams, along with a deep understanding of the challenges and nuances in cross-cultural communication, is paramount. You'll need to effectively share and align on strategic directions, foster mutual understanding, and achieve consensus on execution approaches.
•Proven ability to lead complex projects, define problems, collect data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and coordinate and prioritize multiple projects and tasks. Interest and ability to work effectively in a small, dynamic team environment and collaborate with cross-cultural teams.
•Ability to travel frequently (up to 50%) within the Americas, including regular trips to Lake Mary, and occasional international travel to Japan may be required. Extensive travel to Central and South America is expected.
