DIRECTIONAL BORE OPERATOR

Job Details

The role of a Horizontal/Directional Drill Operator includes operating horizontal/directional drill rigs, locating equipment and product support equipment. This roll will perform semi-skilled activities related to HDD locating must be familiar with industry standards, policies, guidelines, and procedures.

- Operates Horizontal Directional Drill for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable

- Performs all duties according to prescribed safety procedures and uses appropriate safety equipment

- Setup and cleanup of work site including traffic and pedestrian control

- Reads utility locates and ensures all applicable permits and locates are complete and onsite

- Use hand tools to dig around existing utilities when necessary

- Inspects the work that is in progress to ensure that the workmanship conforms to specifications

- Level earth to final grade specifications

- Performs proper maintenance by greasing, oiling, and making minor repairs on equipment

- Leads teams in the field effectively and efficiently as needed and directed by supervisor

- Maintain safe working habits/conditions according to all regulations, procedures, and policies

- Report any equipment repairs needed to Foreman or Supervisor

- Drive company vehicles to and from job site which may include use of tractor/trailers

- Safety training as required by position

- Paperwork filing and maintenance as needed

- Other duties as assigned

Essential Education And Qualifications

- Must have valid driver’s license or be willing to obtain

- Valid DOT Health Card

- Ability to communicate and listen effectively with customers, employees, etc.

- Able to work in all weather conditions

Physical Demands

- Must be able to endure activity involved with the job which may include prolonged and repeated lifting, bending, crouching, climbing, holding, reaching, digging, standing, sitting and walking.

- Must be able to work in an outdoor environment and is regularly exposed to outside weather conditions

- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds
