Responsible for maintaining the safety, reliability, and performance of our gasoline and diesel powered fleet vehicles and equipment. This hands-on role plays a key support function for our field employees, ensuring they have the vehicles and equipment needed to work safely and efficiently. Position involves problem diagnosis and repair of all vehicle systems including engine, transmission, power train, suspension, steering, brakes, exhaust, AC, electrical and hydraulics. This position works under minimal supervision, requires considerable initiative, efficient analysis skills and sound independent judgment. This position reports directly to the Purchasing, Supply Chain and Fleet Manager.
(NOTE: There are also secondary functions which the employee will be required to perform.)

Extensive knowledge & experience in maintenance, diagnosis & repair of both gas and diesel-powered light, medium and heavy vehicles.
Extensive knowledge & experience in maintenance, diagnosis & repair of hydraulic systems typical on bucket trucks, boom trucks, etc. Experience w/ Altec equipment is preferred.
Knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and standard practices of the automotive & diesel mechanic trade.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of heavy equipment garage operations.
Ability to professionally communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to understand and follow moderately complex written and/or oral instructions.
Ability to produce accurate and neat clerical work.
Ability to keep a clean, orderly, safe,efficient garage and operation
Working knowledge of personal computers including Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word & Excel).
Ability to react to change productively and to handle other tasks as assigned.
Graduate from an accredited high school or possession of an acceptable equivalency diploma.
Graduate from an accredited trade school or similar specializing in automotive/diesel mechanic.
Minimum 5 years’ experience in heavy equipment repair (must include hydraulic experience)
When considering new job applicants, a comparable amount of training and experience may be substituted in lieu of some of the minimum qualifications.
Perform thorough inspections of all vehicle systems including the engine, transmission, power train, suspension, steering, brakes, exhaust, AC, electrical and hydraulics.
Carry out minor and major repairs on any systems deficiencies noted during inspection.
Perform preventative maintenance on all types of gasoline and diesel-powered vehicles including the engine, transmission, power train, suspension, steering, brakes, exhaust, AC and hydraulics.
Monitors the maintenance and repair of light and heavy equipment by other service shops as required.
Performs emergency road service to vehicles and equipment outside of garage to minimize job delays.
Keeps time and work schedules, service records and prepares periodic reports, etc.
Work closely with field crews to understand equipment needs and ensure reliable performance.
Operate company trucks and trailers (CDL preferred or willingness to obtain).
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe shop and yard environment.
Collaborate with Department Manager and operations to support the overall success of the business.
Installing strobes, light bars, radios, toolboxes, etc. in new or used vehicles.
Decommission vehicles to be sold or auctioned by removing lightbars, tool boxes, FPUA signage, etc.
