Company Overview:

Wolf Creek Generating Station is Kansas' only nuclear power generating station, providing electric generation for Evergy and KEPCo. Wolf Creek has been safely providing clean, reliable energy to the citizens of Kansas and Missouri since 1985. The plant generates about 1,200 megawatts of electricity, which is enough energy to power more than 800,000 homes.

What we are looking for:

Wolf Creek has an immediate opening for a full-time Engineer to work within the Design Engineering group based in Burlington, KS. The position is for an Electrical Engineer, with the predominant responsibility to maintain plant design basis documents and calculations and complete modification packages to update and replace aging or deficient plant equipment. More details are provided below.

Scheduled Work Hours/Location:

Normal work schedule follows a 4-day work week, Monday – Thursday, with the option for remote work on Mondays. Refueling outages are completed every 18 months that require modified work hours and days to support 24/7 maintenance activities. Paid overtime is available for exempt employees when approved.

Job Specific Responsibilities:

- Develop, and implement procedures, programs, specifications, and engineering methodology to meet industry standards, regulatory guides, and commitments, and to assure WCGS is designed, built, operated, maintained, and tested consistent with our license and design bases.

- Develop, review and support planned modifications to update or replace aging or obsolete plant equipment.

- Determine whether plant systems and/or components are capable of performing their design functions.

- Perform safety evaluations of proposed plant modifications.

- Review and approve procedures, specifications, regulatory screens, safety evaluations, change packages, calculations, and other engineering documents (new or revised).

- Manage engineering program budgets and schedules.

- Perform independent reviews and analysis of industry operating experience, reportable events, NRC issued documents and other sources of plant operating experience information to identify areas for improving plant safety and reliability.

- Provide technical information and consultation and coordinate work efforts with other departments to support the safe operation of the plant.

- Ensure that all documentation affected by modifications are identified and revised to ensure inconsistencies in documentation will not result.

- Interface with modification stakeholders to determine project scope, requirements, support construction/implementation of modifications and start-up activities.

- Perform other duties as assigned by Engineering and plant management.

Education and Experience Requirements:

The Engineer I position requires a BS degree in Engineering.

The Engineer II position requires a BS degree in Engineering and two years relevant experience.

The Staff Engineer position requires a BS degree in Engineering and four years relevant experience.

The Senior Engineer position requires a BS degree in Engineering and eight years of relevant experience and registered engineering in training (EIT) or board recognized industry certification preferred.

The Lead Engineer position requires a BS degree in Engineering and fourteen or more years of relevant experience. A Kansas Professional Engineer License is preferred.

The Principal Engineer position requires a BS degree in Engineering, twenty years of relevant experience and a Kansas Professional Engineer License. An advanced technical degree is preferred.

Relevant experience for these positions is defined as professional level experience in engineering, engineering support or nuclear plant operations and support.

Engineering Curriculum must be accredited by the accreditation board for engineering and technology (ABET). Any other baccalaureate engineering curriculum that has not been accredited by ABET but has been evaluated and found to be of an equivalent standard that may be reviewed and accepted by the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions is acceptable.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Required:

This position requires the ability to: read, analyze, and interpret complex documents; make decisions based on incomplete information; develop and present options to plant leadership; make effective and persuasive presentations on complex topics to management, executives and/or boards of directors.

This position requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems; deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in its most difficult phases; interpret a variety of abstract and concrete variables.

Licenses, Certifications, Bonding, and/or Testing Required:

Preference will be given to licensed Professional Engineer or current Engineer-In-Training (EIT).

Due to the nature of work at a nuclear generating station, candidates must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident of the United States.

Working Conditions:

This position requires the ability to work in a moderately noisy environment (examples: business office with computers and printers, light traffic).

This position requires the ability to read detailed engineering prints and drawings and inspect equipment installations and job sites.

Wolf Creek Generating Station produces electricity 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Occasional off-normal support by Engineering may be required to provide assistance with equipment or Regulatory issues that may arise.
