Position Summary
The (DDL) Design Dept.Lead will be responsible for managing all aspects of the design drafting department. The (DDL) will have oversight related to Manufacturing, Design, and Training. The (DDL) will manage project cycle activity (Planning), monitor, and measure progress and assure that project standards are met with required deadlines. The (DDL) will have oversight on meeting the demands of the current staffing of both the Design Drafters and the Project Managers, with oversight from the Engineering Manager. The (DDL) will apply Best Practices to the design/manufacturing process, using AutoCad/CNC/ERP (Filemaker) software tools. The (DDL) will manage technical requirements necessary to improve technical support to any given customer base, this includes application engineering, where necessary. The (DDL) will be the technical resource for all design activity.
Position Requirements•A preferred two-year college degree in an engineering technology design (Industrial or Mechanical Engineering Technology, Associates in Applied Science, A.A.S.).
•Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience in the use of AutoCAD/Solid Works and a working knowledge of mechanical systems.
•Minimum 1 to 3 years of experience in flat pattern layout.
•Hand Mechanical Drawing Skills for obtaining field take-off information.
•Construction site experience is a plus.
•Be willing to travel throughout the U.S. and Canada.
•Have a valid driver's license
Duties And Responsibilities
•Manage the design center of 7-15 Designer & Project Managers
•Train, Coach, Mentor and oversee training to improve design skills and application knowledge for the department, driven by the Design manual, best practices, Vault. (This should be a continuous improvement initiative).
•Manage the ERP Filemaker software and software inputs, including continuous auditing of designer and project manager input.
•Manage expectations on throughput performance within the department.
•Production planning report Due before the start of business on Mondays (6 days production time)
•Manage and maintain design standards and product enhancements as they relate to product offerings and industry standards.
•Design planning report Due before the start of business on Mondays
•Develop a QA/QC continuous improvement program to be launched and executed in conjunction with the ERP Filemaker software.
Execution
•Review and understand the project (Energy Survey Details, Submittal Details, Drawings, Photos and Information Flow)terms, conditions, and all costing.
•Support a Project Turn-Over Review that provides all company functions and information to execute the sales order and or the project.
•Support a Project Plan that details required activities and activity completion date.
•Communicate special material component requests to purchasing.
•Consult with Engineering Manager on scheduling to optimize design inputs.
•Support progress against the Project Plan Schedule.
•Ensure timely, accurate entry data into Filemaker database.
•Monitor & Support Change Orders/As Builds.
•Coordinate training & development objectives with designers & installers.
•Support installation Readiness Reviews, communicating all details of the project.
