The Data Specialist will maintain data storage, and gather, organize, and interpret business intelligence information based on the data in the District’s databases. Additionally, this position contributes to regulatory compliance and efficient operations of the District.

- Performs database reporting, needs assessments, and business intelligence requirements.
- Creates data models from needs assessments.
- Maintains current and accurate knowledge of data storage and management best practices.
- Ensures that database needs assessments are completed on time and within estimated costs.
- Develops and maintains logical workflow documentation.
- Assists with identifying and resolving production and/or applications development problems related to the use of the database management system software or utilities.
- Gathers and organizes digital data, produces business intelligence reports.
- Performs general database and data warehouse maintenance procedures.
- Assists with developing and delivering customized business intelligence solutions.
- Performs tasks including translating business requirements into technical requirements, Data Modeling, and Dashboards/Reporting.
- Must possess knowledge of commonly used business intelligence procedures.
- Transforms data from disparate sources to support analysis and visualization models.
- Identifies incomplete data and data quality issues.
- Develops technical requirements models that support business intelligence.
- Confirms logical workflow meets standard operating procedures.
- Complies with all company policies.

- Bachelor’s degree in Business Information Systems, Computer Science or related area
- At least two (2) years in data processing and database management or business intelligence reporting
- Or, an equivalent combination of education and experiences sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.
- Ability to maintain effective, fair, cooperative, collaborative, and respectful relationships with internal and external colleagues, peers, work teams and workgroups.
- Ability to learn intimate details of the water system to understand how various components interact with each other.
- Ability to troubleshoot unique problems.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize appropriately.
- Experience working with Microsoft Office programs and other related software systems.
- Understanding of computer languages used within database.
- Understanding of database design and construction.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
This job primarily operates in a climate-controlled environment. Works with equipment such as computers, copy machine, phones and faxes. Frequently required to sit for prolonged periods of time, stand, walk, and reach for objects. Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds. The position requires manual dexterity; auditory and visual skills; and the ability to follow written and oral instructions and procedures. There is no regular travel expected for this position.
